Story
Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work.

When John U. Bacon played for the Ann Arbor Huron High School River Rats, he never scored a goal. Yet somehow, years later he found himself leading his alma mater’s downtrodden program. How bad? The team hadn’t won a game in over a year, making them the nation’s worst squad. With almost everyone expecting more failure, Bacon made it special to play for Huron by making it hard, which inspired the players to excel. Then he defied conventional wisdom again by putting the players in charge of team discipline, goal-setting, and even decision-making—and it worked.

Great lessons for life
Mark provides a very engaging performance for a topic that is near and dear to him. He lives the 4 Commitments and has been very successful doing so. You don't have to know basketball to learn the commitments, apply them to your life, and see changes. Not only have I been applying these to my own life, but I am applying it to my team at work. The commitments are simple, but if followed can have a dramatic impact. I highly recommend this book.

Committed to Win
Mark Eaton's journey from mechanic to NBA All-Star teaches far more than the four commitments. His stories teach perseverance, dedication, kindness, and how to be an All-Star individual. Not many people will have the advantage of being 7'4", but we can all learn to commit ourselves to what we want. Mark really proved his worth ethic during his years at Cypress, working 19 hour days. Wow.
I felt like a privileged insider, listening to the life stories of this real-life giant. A worthwhile three hours of time!

An inspirational story of perseverance, hard work, and commitment that could benefit anyone.
Mark is a good storyteller and is able to seamlessly relate his life experiences starting out as an auto mechanic, to an NBA All-Star, business owner, and motivational speaker to almost anybody and gives useful suggestions on how to improve your life and the lives of people around you. As a high school teacher and basketball coach, there are definite lessons that I will be passing on to the children trusted in my care. Mark’s lessons on the Four Commitments are geared towards people in the business world, but I feel that his words share common morals that would benefit nearly everybody. In the forward by NBA legend and Mark’s teammate, John Stockton, John told the story of when he first met Mark after he had been drafted by the Utah Jazz. John explained what a genuine guy Mark was and spent time visiting with the young rookie even though he was already an established NBA player. I had the exact same experience when I met Mark in the spring of 2018. Mark let me join him and watch a Jazz playoff game and shared numerous stories with me, even though I was just some guy that came up to him off the street. He was very generous with his time and it made a childhood dream of mine come true. His life story is highly improbable and extremely inspirational. It goes to show that if you surround yourself with the right people, put forth your best efforts and uplift the people around you, there are no limits how far you can go. I highly recommend this book!

Valuable recipe for personal and team success.
Mark Eaton, Professional NBA Player, iconic Star of the Utah Jazz, successful businessman and speaker personally tells his story. Trials, tribulations, frustrations and ultimately record setting success achieved by following through with four commitments of a winning team.
Unparalleled proprietary insights into the history and nuances of the NBA and the Jazz Franchise; combined with keys to success gleaned over a career with a focus on commitment. "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy...the chance to draw back".
Some might say Teamwork has taken a back seat to individual recognition. Mark shows they can and should work together.
Four commitments gleaned from Mark's journey through mentors to help all of us better understand our roles in increasing our individual and teams productivity and success. When embraced, allows us to move forward with clarity and focus.
Mark has an amazing resonating voice that really brings the material to life and keeps you engaged. This is a must read for sports and business,,, rather all walks of life. Rory Andrus, Reviewer
