Publisher's summary

From internationally acclaimed thriller writer Grant McKenzie comes a novel that hits perilously close to home and will keep you guessing until the very end.

Ian Quinn's day begins with an anonymous death threat. Nothing that’s new when you’re a court-ordered child protection officer. But the threat is nothing compared to the envelope stuffed into his hand by a foul-smelling vagrant who mutters the cryptic message 'he says he's sorry' before scurrying away. The envelope with his name scrawled across the front contains a lone visitor's pass to the Oregon State Penitentiary, and the accompanying message fills Ian's heart with revulsion. The author of the note destroyed Ian's life. In the blink of an eye, this drunk-driving scum took the most precious thing in Ian's life. Worst of all, Ian had watched it happen. The message is short. Only seven words. I was paid to kill your daughter.

Gripping!

This book is a fantastic start to a new series. I really like Grant McKenzie , my only wish is that he didn't wait years in between books!!
This is the first book in the Ian Quinn series. The second book is The Butcher's Son which came out on Audible in 2016. I don't think it really matters what order these books are read in but if you haven't listened to Butcher's Son already I would suggest listening to this book first.
In this book the protagonist is being stalked by someone from his past in the child protection agency he co-owns and works for. Ian's job is court ordered supervised visits between parents and their children who have been removed from their care. Someone out there thinks he made the wrong recommendation to the court. They want him to suffer.
This book is fast paced. Not completely believable but hey it's fiction so who cares. It's not too far off the beaten path and the plot is great.
Jeff Harding does an excellent job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Great start to a new series!

The Ian Quinn series has the potential to be an outstanding thriller series. It is the best first in a series novel I have read in a long time.

Narrator was Awful

The narrator was so bad that I only listened to 2 chapters. Just couldn’t keep listening.
