Great book

The timing of this book, with what’s going on in society today is Erie. Too many people play the victim card. The only path to success is the one where you take responsibility for your life and stop blaming everyone else for your failure. Great book Ant.

great book learning to control fear

First chapter was a little iffy for me. the story seemed to bounce around a lot while trying to find out who the author was, and what was going on. After that it got good though. I'd say once I hit chapter four I was all in. probably because the baseline of the story is a former SAS special forces member talking about climbing Everest. Two of my favorite things: military and mountaineering. Great nuggets for learning about fear and controlling them to be your best, and to be an all around good person. A lesson I think every single person needs to read and learn.

Never quitting...resilience...growing!! The human capacity is far greater than we can imagine... with the rise of the BLM, SJW, and cancel culture these type books are a necessity to keep people from falling into their victim hood mentality

Amazing book

After seing Ant's quest to Everest on 2018, I decided that I should also do it. A year later I went to Nepal and finished the Everest base camp trek 3 passes without a porter. this was phase 1 for me, before attempting smaller mountains like Lobuche East and Island Leak and then eventually Everest.
When flying to/from Lukla it was my first time on a small airplane. When I came back home it made me want to become a pilot. I'm now in the middle of the flight program.

Ant is an amazing person and a true source of inspiration.

Inspirational

I listened to this book while taking my almost daily runs. It was so inspiring and fascinating that I went further and faster than ever before, knowing that yes I could do it, and being so “in” the book. Ant is so honest and vulnerable that he adds a humanity to his stories and life. Must read.

A solid and insightful guide to self reliance and

I loved this book. The conversational style really appeals to me. The advice is meaningful and sound. I will carry many of the stories and guidelines with me into the future. My favorite line was, "People want you to be the most basic version of yourself." I've experienced first hand the cruelty of friends and family members when I've dared to be more than my basic self that they can understand. Never be less to make others more comfortable. That's just mediocrity. Great book. Thanks, Ant.

A narcissists diary!

An incredible lack of self awareness as he time and time again criticised others arrogance. A book I wish I hadn’t started as I admired Ant but this was SO painful to read that I couldn’t finish it despite enduring 75% of it I could take no more but let me guess, he was first up and “better” than everyone else??

anecdotal drivel. if you want to hear about Ant's disdain for people wearing new mountain equipment then get it, otherwise skip.

A bit too preachy, not as good as his first book

I loved Ant's first book, his story and lessons through his incredible life were brilliant, he is a shining example for the younger generation and i respect how he is trying to help others. However there seems to be only one lesson/ technique to take from this book (the visualising of fear bubbles) which could have been described in a few paragraphs rather than a full book. There are some interesting parts to his climb up everest, but i really struggled to get through the constant preaching about having a positive mindset. Positivity was covered in the first book, and this one feels like repitition. I'm afraid its barely 10% of what the first book was. I hate to leave anything other than a 5* review but i feel the rating of this book as 5/5 is inaccurate and am trying to correct that so others arent let down by this follow up to a truly 5* book

Inspiring

Well written , inspiring, well read by the author . Very un-PC. A necessary breath of fresh air and reality in a victim focussed world . Should be compulsory reading in schools. It won’t make me climb Everest but there’s a peak in Peru I’ve got my eye on....

Wanted to like it

I bought this hoping to hear about adventure and principles for managing fear. I liked the principles about managing fear and can see value in his approach from the perspective of someone who's tried and tested it. I was also excited to hear about he Everest trek. I love Jocko Willink and other elite people, for example the David Goggins book.

But this absolutely falls flat for me. His assessments of psychological choice are based upon anecdotal experience and have little grounding in psychological development. I'm not saying that Ant isn't an extraordinary person, but he brings a machismo arrogance that isn't to my liking. Humility is an admirable quality and this doesn't have much of it. He talks about 'taking responsibility' when he was arrested, but it sounded more about saving face and not looking weak than admitting that his behaviour was off-key. He talks about crying like it's only used as manipulation. I lost interest half way through. Will return the book if I can.

If you read these comments Ant, how about taking a look at the impact of your experiences and taking responsibility for your behaviour? Rather than trying to tell others to basically 'man up', which is part of the problem for those with psychological trauma,, they don't seek help because they don't want to seem weak, until they hang themselves or jump off a train bridge. It's not just a simple choice for them.

Genuine, honest and very entertaining

Really enjoyed listening to Ant read his story. He uses story telling of his experiences to give you the tools to overcome fears and make sure you are living life and not just crusing in the comfort zone. I was worried this book would be like Ranulph Fiennes book Fear, which I also enjoyed, but it's not at all. I think Ant is very honest and detailed about his personal technique to overcome fear. Very refreshing and brave to hear something very genuine in this day and age. Great read and think its a book I would listen to again when I need to be brave.

Motivational

I really enjoyed both reading and listening to Ant's previous book however, as interesting as this one was, it wasn't a page turner for me. This may have been because I have seen Ant on tour and I had heard most of this before. I did find Ant's mindset about fear and facing it interesting and have tried to overcome situations by using this. Don't get me wrong, it is a good book but the way it has been formatted and perhaps my previous knowledge spoiled it for me.

Inspirational

This is the kind of book I would happily give my children to read. Not only inspirational for them but for their mother. This book has given me the insight and motivation to challenge myself as I grow older. Now in my 60s life is setting up new challenges for me and it is so easy to be lazy. I don’t want my world to shrink and this book has opened my eyes to this. Thank you Ant Middleton.

Couldn’t recommend this more!

Fear holds us back from achieving what we are truly capable of, Ant’s method of containing fear within a bubble is incredible. It allows you to stop stressing the little things and be focused when in the bubble. This book is life changing!

Popping my own fear bubble

This book struck me on many levels. I listened to it whilst laying in hospital recovering from a 4th cancer surgery since being diagnosed in July 2020. My recovery and future surgeries will be placed into bubbles and popped one at a time.
I’d recommend this book to anyone going through a person struggle no matter how big or small.

Great book

I really enjoyed listening to this book, and a bonus that it was narrated by the author! He does have an accent though and can be a little difficult to understand at times but being a huge fan of his SAS shows I didn't mind at all. I thought the story was really interesting and I love his concept of the fear bubble. I have been applying it to my own life and it has been really helpful. At times he comes across as arrogant throughout his story but perhaps a bit of that is required to achieve what he has in life. Either way I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to his other books
