Publisher's summary

Two women quarantined together. A world falling into chaos.

When a virus sweeps across the globe, Ash and Jack must each face their fears. Married and isolated in one small apartment, each woman grows restless, claustrophobic, and paranoid.

As the horror outside their door ramps up to apocalyptic levels, inside Jack is slowly unraveling. She shuts herself away and fears everything. Fears the virus has crawled its way inside, down her throat, into the lining of her stomach. Ash is afraid, too - afraid of what her increasingly erratic wife will do to her.

In a pandemic none of us are ready for, should we fear the outside world...or what's waiting within?

From the author who brought you stories of literary horror and weird in Kitchen Sink comes Spencer Hamilton's debut novel, The Fear.

Apocalyptic Transformation

An alternate reality of the Covid 19 outbreak. It really highlights the isolation, insecurity, and transformation of people in an apocalyptic world ruled by fear, bigotry, and that dipshit, Trump. A really cool twist at the end.

Hated it.

This book could’ve been so much better, than it actually is. I’m left completely disappointed. The preview for this book said it’s a horror novel and that one of the main characters feared that her spouse might harm her. That barely even entered into the story.

I found nothing about this book to be in the horror genre. It was barely suspenseful, until the last 10 minutes. The entire story kept leading to a huge buildup, or so I had hoped, but it fell completely flat, at the end. You end up listening for 7 hours of buildup, which goes nowhere exciting.

The narrator was okay. She was easy to listen to, but only had one decent character voice and the rest seemed really contrived. The narration didn’t take away from the story, however, though her inflection and emoting were flat and unimaginative.

This book had real potential. Too bad it didn’t hit the Mark. It’s rare that I don’t enjoy a story. I’m usually entertained, at the very least. Lately, however, I’ve been hard pressed to find a new author, that doesn’t leave me feeling bored or disappointed.

I cannot recommend this book, unfortunately.
