Publisher's summary

R.A. Salvatore's The Cleric Quintet tells the tale of the scholar-priest Cadderly, who is plucked from the halls of the Edificant Library to fulfill a heroic quest across the land of Faern.

Cadderly leads the combined forces of Carradoon and Shilmista against Castle Trinity, stronghold of his enemy Aballister. But another mission calls him on a journey leading into a past he hoped he would be able to forget.

Still after all the decades

This is still a good story decades after it was written. I remember reading a story when I was in high school in the 1990s right after it came out. When I saw this book on audible. I bought it just to read the story again. As the Universe the author has created has unfolded the characters in the story really don’t play a significant role. However, this story does play a role as a whole. I am trying not to ruin the story for anyone who has not read this book or any of the rest in the series. There is a lot of great information here and a lot of good character development. Even after almost 30 years, the story could be released today and still sell quite well.

RAS in his element

My least favorite characteristic of RAS stories you ask?

Me: 'Thankfully that ultimate bad guy/gal is dead! There's NO WAY they're coming back from that!'

RAS: 'Hold my beer'

What a cheap way to deal with complex characters and storylines. 'If u r fed I'll bring u back! ' smh

Salvatore at his best

First off Victor Bevine is a rare breed of reader and a book I loved as a child was brought to life in a way I wasn’t expecting. There is so much to love about this series and although Drizzt rightfully gets love, this book doesn’t as much as it should.

Excellent story, excellent performance!

Having listened to all of the Drizzt series, I've been looking for another series that was as action-packed and intriguing. Look no further! I'm already 4 books in and working on the last book, and I am so glad that I decided to pick up this series. Victor Bevine's performance is phenomenal, bringing the cast to life with such diverse and unique voices and characteristics. I don't think I could listen to another Audible that is not done by him as he sets the bar so high! I highly recommend this book and the Drizzt series by the same author and narrator as they will leave you satisfied yet wanting more and more!

Lazy Writing. Incredulous.

Too many times I found myself asking myself “why in god’s name am I still listening to this nonsense?” This R. A. book in particular is silly, like it was written for a pre-teen audience. Pickle’s ooohs and aaahs and other sounds are overused. The “young priest” is super annoying, and despite his lack of experience [somehow] he’s the most powerful wizard in the world. There’s lots of action and many “poor ogres” and “poor goblins” get their faces split in half, which is great, but S. A. can’t write a good action scene, so it’s more of the same after more of the same. Basically, lazy writing.
