Acerca de esta escucha
For one 123 years the mystery of Lizzie Borden has captivated the public as perhaps one of the most celebrated cases in our American justice system. After her acquittal, Lizzie Borden was ostracized in her hometown of Fall River, Massachusetts. She was even mocked in the now-famous children's skip rope rhyme which went: "Lizzie Borden took an ax - Gave her mother 40 whacks - When she saw what she had done - Gave her father 41." Perhaps the truth lies in the key testimonies presented at the time of her trial. For the first time presented here in this easy to listen dialog format, is the full transcript of The Trial of Lizzie Borden.

Historia
One of the most notorious murders in US history, the 1892 killing of Andrew and Abby Borden in Fall River, Massachusetts, officially remains an unsolved case. Although Lizzie Borden was charged with the axe murders of her father and stepmother, the jury found her not guilty. No one else was ever charged. Edwin H. Porter was a young police reporter for the Fall River Daily Globe who covered the crime. Beginning with the discovery of the bodies, all the way through the investigation, trial, and final verdict, Porter gives a detailed account with first-hand access to the crime scene.

Laying out all the evidence in the most comprehensive summary ever written about the Ripper, this book, by a London police officer and crime authority, has subjected every theory - including those that have emerged in recent years-to the same deep scrutiny. The author also examines the mythology surrounding the case and provides some fascinating insights into the portrayal of the Ripper on stage and screen and on the printed page. More seriously, he also examines the horrifying parallel crimes of the Düsseldorf Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper.

Historia
In a compelling, linear narrative, Miller takes listeners along as she investigates a brutal crime: the August 4, 1892, murders of wealthy and prominent Andrew and Abby Borden. The accused? Mild-mannered and highly respected Lizzie Borden, daughter of Andrew and stepdaughter of Abby. Most of what is known about Lizzie’s arrest and subsequent trial (and acquittal) comes from sensationalized newspaper reports; as Miller sorts fact from fiction, and as a legal battle gets under way, a gripping portrait of a woman and a town emerges.

On January 6, 2021, insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol, an act of domestic terror without parallel in American history, designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. In a resolution six months later, the House of Representatives called it "one of the darkest days of our democracy," and established a special committee to investigate how and why the attack happened. Celadon Books, in collaboration with The New Yorker, presents the committee's final report, the definitive account of January 6th and what led up to it.

I order another bourbon, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here, to this place, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. Crime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me to the point of obsession.

Now, in Journey into Darkness, Douglas profiles vicious serial killers, rapists, and child molesters. On October 24, 1890, a woman's mutilated and lifeless body was discovered on a pile of rubbish in Hampstead, North London. Her arms were lacerated, her face crushed and bloodied, and her head almost completely severed from her body. A mile away a blood-soaked stroller was found leaning against a residential gate. The dead baby's body, hidden beneath a nettle bush, was not located until the following morning. So began the incredible story of the Hampstead Tragedy.

Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

Not as interesting as I had hoped
This is the records from the court case. It’s about exciting as watching paint dry. With that said, from the evidence presented, I don’t think Lizzy Borden killed her parents.

Fantastic!
Did Lizzie Borden really back her father and step-mother to death? In. The Fall River Murders: Trial Of Lizzie Borden Volumn I you can judge for yourself as W.B. Ward reads the first part of the original court transcript.
This reviewer found the audio book riviting and is anxiously awaiting Volumn II. I can't help but wonder if the trial shouldn't be re-opened for two reasons: men's opinions of women being delicate creatures, a popular opinion of the time, also there seems to be some conflicting evidence in Volumn I. So, did she do it?

Did she or didn't she?
This is an intriguing account of an unsolved mystery. Volumn 1 tells of the events surrounding the brutal slayings of Mr. Andrew Borden and his wife Abby. The main suspect was his daughter Lizzie. Her subsequent trial is told here from court transcripts. Spoiler alert, she was acquitted. The author has done a great job presenting the details in "edge of your seat" fashion. W.B. Ward does an excellent job narrating and doing the voices of the characters involved. I am looking forward to hearing Volumn 2!

Filled with SO MANY juicy tidbits!
I LOVED THIS!! Over the years I’ve owned/read lots of books about this case, but for some reason THIS ONE, and being done in audiobook format - included SO many little details that I was apparently unaware of. I was astonished. It was truly like being right there. Such as how the actual bloody murder sofa Andrew was killed upon, was brought into the courthouse and set out in the hall!!! Witnesses spilling out seemingly trivial facts that make you go wait, what??? And much more!
I also liked this narrator...although not perfect, he REALLY added genuine realism, as it makes it seem as if HE was actually there and is telling you all about it! Loved it. A LOT. If there is a future Volume 2. . . .SOLD!

Great story
The story is well defined and a great read. It was a true crime with the right amount of liberties to enhance the story by the author, but not take away from the facts. It's worth the read for sure!
