Publisher's Summary

A killer walks among the rich and powerful. Who can the Magebreakers trust? Someone is killing the non-magical members of Senate houses - those who might one day be named Protector of the Realm. And that same someone is leaving behind messages for the Magebreakers beside symbols of the shadowy organization known as the Knights of the Emperor.

Under suspicion from the constabulary, Tane and Kadka are drawn into the investigation to prove their innocence. What they find is that Audish politics are as dangerous as any Porthaven back alley. Suddenly, they're surrounded by the most powerful figures in the realm, everyone with a different agenda. Telling allies from enemies has never been harder, but Tane and Kadka will have to find someone to trust if they're going to bring the killer to justice. Their lives - and the future of the Protectorate - depend on it.

Good Arcanepunk Fantasy

It was slightly predictable at times but a great ride! Couldn't stop reading/listening! Great book!

Killer on the loose. No problem!

The Emperor's Mask
Magebreakers series, Book 2
By: Ben S. Dobson
Narrated by: Travis Baldree
This is another good book with Tane and Kadka, of course they get accused of things they didn't do...I guess they just look like trouble makers instead of Magebreakers. Somebody is killing people in the Senate. Lots of action, magic, fights, new characters, good plot, and plenty of intrigue. I didn't think it was as good as book one but it was still good.
Great narration! Great performance!

Saw the ending coming far in advance

It was a very good book but unfortunately for a mystery if you can see the ending well before the actual end of the book it can be a little disappointing. I look forward to the next one.

Few surprises but a wonderful story and telling.

I was not surprised at all during the story seeing as it is a mystery I would hope for some. The writing itself and the story were magnificent. I also thoroughly enjoyed the voice acting.

Author screwed this one up

The villain and his method were obvious from almost the very start, and it was painful to see the MC run around avoiding the obvious.

Meh

Very obvious twists which failed to surprise me. Not a bad story but not nearly as good as the first in the series.

A Fun Little Adventure!

So the story managed to retain much of the magic that made the first installment of the series so much fun. The characters are still rather likeable, we get a few new people that might amount to something plot wise in the future. The mystery was there for about the first quarter of the story but I figured out who was the culprit by about chapter nine. So I understand people's frustration that it took the main character that long to do it but the book gives a credible reason why he takes so long. All in all, solid writing and I'm looking very forward to the next installments of the series!!!

GOOD.

Entertaining. I love the storyline. Tane and Kadka make a good team. There are action and intrigues. An interesting plot. I hope there will be more adventures to come for the magebreakers.

Obvious

The first book was well done, but the second book relies to heavily upon the mystery and it was pretty obvious whose the villain. The character development is missing in this instalment.

Mystery is very hard to write

mystery is very hard to write. I got the baddie pegged as soon as we met and the red herring was a nice surprise but didn't last long enough. I hope you can do better next time :) love the mage breakers - generally sword and sorcery is all about power and spells that suddenly do exactly what you want them to (JKR) so I like this series quite a bit

Short, obvious but enjoyable

I enjoyed this book but a brain teaser it is not.

the main chars are fun, the world is interesting but this needed a lot more meat to the story
