The Eagle and the Dragon takes the listener on an epic journey of thousands of miles by sea and land across three continents.

When Senator Aulus Aemilius Galba is tapped to lead the first Roman mission to China, he anticipates an easy path to fame and fortune. Gaius Lucullus sees a bright military future, but his reluctant centurion Antonius Aristides would rather be somewhere else. Translators Marcia Lucia and her brother Marcus were taken from their village in China to serve the Han court, abused and despised, hiding a horrible secret. A notorious Arab pirate, with a Roman price on his head and crucifixion in his future, shadows the entourage, seeking the wealthy prize of their treasure-laden ships. But Fate has other plans for these unlikely companions, sending them together on a journey that will take them thousands of miles by sea and land across the tapestry of the mysterious worlds at the close of the first century.

From the storm-tossed Indian Ocean to the opulent Hanaean court, from the wild grassy steppes north of China to the forbidding peaks of the Pamir Mountains of Bactria, they fight for their lives, hoping to find the road that will lead them back to Rome.

Recently I took a series of road trips with my husband and this audiobook was the perfect companion for us. Over 25 hours. Harry Frost’s narration is engaging, great pacing, and his characters are easily differentiated.
If you like historical fiction and epic adventure this novel set during the Roman Empire and on to the first mission to China should not be missed. Easy to recommend!

While this audiobook represents a mere historical novel, it is correctly entrenched in a scholarly, factual narrative vis-a-vis Classical Roman ideals and ancient Hainanese (Chinese) traditions circa 100 CE/AD.

An Outstanding Saga of Roman Valor

Overall, it was a good story the group departs on a diplomatic mission to the Han empire of China, they encounter pirates and a nasty storm in the Indian ocean. they stop in India and encounter the locals there, then make it to China and it is interesting to hear descriptions of the ancient China of 2000 years ago. They run afoul of the emperor and have to flee China And return to Rome Overland Crossing through other empires territory. Highly recommended. If you like tales of adventure and exotic locations

To be honest, my draw to this audiobook was Harry Frost. I have vision problems and I have found Mr. Frost’s narrations the best I have heard. I can always distinguish individual characters and he has a very emotive style. I was getting tired of listening to romances.

As to the book itself - wow, it was so good. I was drawn right into the story and didn’t get much done as I binged listening to it. I have bought the second book and I guess I will be AWOL as I listen to it. Many thanks to the author for the interesting characters and storyline.
