Doctor Titus Conleith emerged from his time as a battlefield surgeon with a mysterious fortune, a lethal secret, and a demon on his back. Ruthlessly intelligent, he was able to lift himself from his beginnings as coal-stained bastard through merciless discipline and inexhaustible skill. Alone by choice, he swore never to open his heart to another, not after Honoria Goode, the heiress who shattered his hopes and then tread upon the shards of his heart with her bejeweled slippers. The beauty with whom he shared his first taste of passion, before she gave her hand to another.

Story
Lady Eve Sotherby dreams of escaping her horrid life in England, yet she has nowhere to run. So when she spies a posting for a companion in the Highlands, she seizes the chance to disappear. She’s heard tales about the barbaric Highlanders, of course, but no one can be worse than the beast she once foolishly agreed to wed. And never mind that she doesn’t meet any of the requirements for the position: must have no family, must love the cold, and must know the healing arts.

Tough Love
Kerrigan Byrne has written a novel that is so believable and emotional I could not put it down. The language is a little rough, but in order to demonstrate a gruff background of the hero it is necessary. I started reading this series years ago, and had forgotten some of the characters that ended up being key to Ashes story, my amnesia, so as he remembered so did I. This was the best of the series. I went back to see how I had rated the others, I also gave them 5 star ratings.
The book cover does not reflect how I see the characters in my mind, so don't expect a clean cut fellow with a seductive heroine. Ashe would be a tattoo covered man with scars physically and mentally embedded in his demeanor. Lorelai also has her own scars and the two heal each other through the story. This book contains all the elements to keep you reading, love, hate, anger, suspense, sex and intrigue.
The icing on the cake was Derek Perkins narration. He is my absolute favorite narrator. He made every character come to life with the raw emotion intended. I go out of my way to listen to books he reads and I am never disappointed. Although, I don't think it is necessary for you to read the previous books in this series to enjoy book 6, you will appreciate the ending more fully if you have. As I said before, I have given the entire series a 5 star rating. Kerrigan and Perkins are a grand slam!

Wild Ride!
Holy Morley! This book starts with a bang and never lets up, not even until the end. So many questions from previous books in the series get answered. Old beloved friends make cameos, with every detail is so beautifully woven into the story and interlaced perfectly with previous books in the series, it causes one's mind to run a movie.. I can't say this is the best book in the series, because they are all good, but it's darn close. So much heart. So much action. So much love. So much redemption. So perfect. Derek Perkins is magnificent, as always, especially with accents.
Note to Miss Byrne: I'd like to see Inspector Morley get some love too. ;0)

Another Stellar Read From Ms Byrne!!
Another incredible book from Kerrigan and Derek! I listened to it in 1 day as I couldn't stop listening. The dark, tortured soul of Kerrigan's heroes emerges again as the Rook (Ash) has his own story with his beloved Lorelai. If I wrote anymore it would give away the mystery and the secrets revealed at the end.
It's totally worth the wait and the credit. You must get this one but you need to read/hear Book 1, The Highlander to set the story.
I love Derek Perkins!!

What can I say. I absolutely love Kerrigan Byrne and Derek Perkins. The two are like spun gold. I only wish they would put out more books. I love how a lot of the past characters came in to play in this one. We finally find out who the Rook really is. I think Kerrigan is the most incredible author to ever grace paper. She’s got more talent in her little finger than most authors that have best sellers. Please give this series a try. You WONT be disappointed. Thank you Kerrigan for your talent and thank you Derek for your incredible acting and voice distinctions. Your truly the best. Now please PLEASE please more from both of you!!!!!!

Can't get past the G D in every paragraph
I feel sad for the story and the narrator are good. However though I can get pass cursing in books if you feel your writing can't make a point without it, I can't handle your choice of GOD's slap in the face at every turn. Because of this I will buy no more books by this writer. Cursing I get, Constant offense to GOD for me actually feels like a physical slap each time. No more.

This is a great one! I’m so glad I found this author. The hero is dark and dangerous, but unlike many men of this genre, he isn’t an arrogant ass. The heroine doesn’t have a huge personality, but there’s enough excitement in the boot to make up for it. The narrator is super talented

A must read!
Another wonderful Gothic tale of treachery, love and redemption.
The story begins with the gentle and disabled 14 year old Lorelai finding the nearly dead Ash and gently nurturing him back to life. He is a man with no name, no past, no memories and is racked at night by demons.
Only after a short time they are cruelly separated; and this is the story of how Ash transforms into The Rook, the "King of the Sea", his determination to find his way back to Lorelai and ultimately how they save each other.
It is truly a wonderful love story with great characters and what I found particularly good was how the author brought the story back to the beginning and filled in all the missing pieces to a fascinating puzzle.
Again, I can't wait to read the final chapter in the Victorian Rebels series.
As ever Derek Perkins narrates the story and he captures the essence of all the characters so beautifully.
