Publisher's Summary

Showbiz comes to Oxford in the form of Britain's hottest new talent show, and tearoom owner Gemma Rose gets a peek behind the scenes when she's asked to cater for the event. But with the Old Biddies, entering the contest as England's first "granny band", and her little tabby, Muesli, stealing the limelight, Gemma soon ends up with more than she bargained for... and that's before she comes across a frozen dead body!

Now, she's on the trail of a murderer, with four nosy old ladies giving her a helping hand, while also dealing with her embarrassing mother, her workaholic boyfriend - and even a mouse invader at her tearoom!

With things heating up in the contest and so many suspects in the running, can Gemma catch the killer before the curtain falls?

I am a fan

I've previously read all the books in this series, and have them listened as they became available on Audible. I love the atmosphere provided by Pearl Hewitt's narration. The characters are vivid and believable ... except perhaps for the comic Old Biddies, which as a senior citizen myself I find epitomize a cliche I find annoying. I have to admit that they often lend humorous complications that provide clues toward solving the mystery. The plot is suitably complex, with plenty of red herrings. There are both funny and dramatic scenes, and one of the most startling methods of murder yet. I continue to hope for romance for Seth, and I wish there were more of the attractive Inspector, Devlin in this one. However, the mystery was good, and the premise of backstage competition in the modern reality show "From Pleb to Celeb" was interesting and entertaining. That's the heart of this installment of a favorite cozy series. A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

Good read, good series

My sixth read/ listen from author H.Y. Hanna. An enjoyable cozy mystery. I absolutely loved Paerl Hewitt, the British accented narrator who adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with her wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Fun tale!

I always enjoy these tearoom mysteries. This one was especially entertaining with the talent show setting, the adult bookstore and the prissy ladies magazine editor..

The Oxford Tearoom Gets the Reality TV treatment!

The Dough Must Go On by H.Y. Hanna is the 9th book in the Oxford Tearoom Mysteries series. For those who have not had the good fortune of listening to this series before, it features Gemma Rose who is a struggling owner of an adorable tearoom in a tiny Cotswolds village near Oxford University. In this book, Gemma’s little tearoom is asked to cater tea and scones twice a day to an America’s Got Talent-type TV show that is filming nearby. As she has a habit of doing, Gemma discovers the dead body of one of the contestants and then proceeds to solve the mystery of who did it. There were several red herrings, which kept me guessing until the very end (twice I guessed the wrong person as the murderer). As an added bonus, the Old Biddies (four octogenarians who frequent Gemma's tea room) are contestants on the reality show after forming a “granny band” with names for each band member similar to the Spice Girls, but using the names of real spices instead. The Old Biddies truly steal ever scene that they are in, providing an abundance of laugh-out-loud moments. As always Pearl Hewitt did a fantastic job narrating as she did in the other books in the series. She provided varying voices for all characters, and emoted enthusiasm and excitement in all the right places. This is the second audiobook that my husband and I listened to while traveling out of town a few weeks ago and he enjoyed it immensely. Please tell me this is not the last book in the series!?!

Very cute and entertaining except for one thing.

This author has taken throat clearing to a new level and it's totally unneeded and quite weird. Everyone's constantly doing it. Why????? And it's in her other books too. must be an epidemic.
