Publisher's summary

From the terrifying case file that inspired the film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

From this New York Times best-selling author comes a shocking case of demonic possession, exorcism, and murder starring the legendary demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who battled the Amityville Horror and whose real-life case files inspired The Conjuring Universe, which includes The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Nun films.

It was one of the most sensational murder trials of the 1980s. When Arne Cheyenne Johnson stabbed an acquaintance to death with a five-inch folding knife, Johnson presented one of the most shocking legal defenses in history: not guilty by virtue of demonic possession. As the press put it, “the Devil made me do it”.

Johnson’s shocking story began months earlier, when his girlfriend’s 11-year-old brother, David, encountered a spectral figure looming at the foot of the bed and then started showing telltale signs of demonic possession. David suddenly spoke in Latin, levitated, and suffered beatings at the hands of an invisible demon. After a team of Catholic priests failed to drive the demon out, the case was taken up by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens had fought demons across the globe, but the Connecticut Devil would be one of their greatest challenges, and perhaps their most deadly.

Great book

I first heard about this book from Dr. Gene Scott about 30 years ago and I had the paper back and I miss placed it. I am so glad that they had it here on audible. It is an absolutely fantastic read of a truly remarkable situation. If this does not convince you of the reality of the supernatural, and there truly is no hope for you.

Very Informative!

I recently watched a documentary on this case on Discovery+ that was not nearly as detailed as this book. I was shocked that the police and the prosecution really tried to railroad this guy when they didn't have the evidence to change and convict him. As a person that suffered from a demonic haunting I can only feel for someone whose experience was much worse than mine. Great book !!! I recommend it to anyone with a interest in the paranormal! Listen and enjoy!

Wow

This case really was horrible. Interesting listen, worth the money. Doesn’t talk much about the Warrens, tho, just focuses on the case.

Amazingly Scary

This book satisfies my horror fix it was extremely scary who ever tells you it’s not it’s lying to the point where I had to buy other ED and Loraine books however none of them satisfied me at all but this one I would literally pray after listening sessions. Just in case it was intense we know what happened after Arnie became possessed but what happened before was way scarier .

Stunning and scary!

I loved the movies but nothing compares to the retelling and the journals, both author and narrator absolutely nailed this!

Creepy and straight to the point.

It was very disturbing and flat out creepy. I had to put it down a couple of times. Rather you choose to believe it or call it a hoax it is up to you. The story is not ment for the faint of heart. If you liked The Conjuring movies then you may want to give this book a try. It really does make you think if something is really out there.

Well done

This is not meant to be a horror story. This is a true account, intended to communicate a larger picture. It is not meant to be a thrill ride. That said, the story is frightening enough.

Great study of Demonology, but needed update.

The Narrator on this one is fantastic!! I had chills several times and as a regular listener to horror novels I can tell you that is hard to make happen for me any more. But by golly he did it. He took me there. 5/5!!
This audio edition was produced in conjunction with the 3rd Conjuring movie, yet the book stops when it was originally published in 1983. Someone needed to add at least a small afterward that updated the history to the time of the release.
As with the Author's other book on the Warren's THE DEMONOLOGIST this is a great archive/ report on the Real Life cases and Claims of the Warrens. I don't know how much is actually "True" as to what they claimed to see only the Claimants and maybe the author know that. But much of what lies within does jibe with the current (and 1983) understanding of demons, but (minor spoilers) The families of chronicled here and Arne Johnson claimed they were still harassed by the demons after the main events died off.
In these cases it is because as Jesus said, The "house" was put in order, but the new dweller was never invited in. Jesus must be in the home and in the hearts of those involved, not just in effigy but in fact. Religious symbols only serve to anger such spirits and will not drive off "principalities and Powers" Only the true presence of the Holy Spirit can do that.
If you are seeking REAL spiritual healing and the expulsion of the Demonic, you will NOT find the answers in this book. Only one person and 1 "book" can do that.
