Publisher's summary

An unexpected inheritance. A stately manor. A place of evil.

Jim Bauer is shocked when he inherits a large sum of money and a historic mansion. The mysterious gift comes with a stipulation, however; he must use the funds to restore Mansfeld Manor to its original condition.

What Jim doesn’t know is that this home has a terrible history. As he works to restore the manor, he begins to learn the terrifying secrets of its past. He discovers tales of missing persons, rumors of occult rituals, and sightings of a ghostly wolf on the grounds.

And now the evil has begun once again.

Even with the help of a paranormal investigator and a woman with ties to the manor’s history, Jim is left to answer the biggest questions of all: Why was he chosen to inherit the manor? And what does the evil want from him?

Don’t miss this debut novel from a bold new voice in supernatural fiction.

Unique haunted house tale with a great backstory..

The Demon of Mansfeld Manor by S.A. Jacobs was a beautifully written classic horror story with a unique and quite fun backstory. Jim inherits a huge estate and a large sum of money from a long lost relative that he never knew he had. She had assigned these gifts to him in her will that goes a few generations back. She addressed him by name and stated his birthday as another identifier...a few generations earlier. Thus begins the story of Mansfeld Manor. What Jim doesn't know at the time when he accepts his inheritance is that there are spirits and real living people as well that are determined to keep him from finding some secrets that the house has hidden within...

The Demon of Mansfeld Manor was a really well thought out and constructed story. It was placed really well and I listened to it every chance that I got until it was finished. As S.A. Jacobs debut novel, I can definitely say that I will be keeping my eye out for his next book. I felt that it fell apart a little at the end, but overall was a good listen. Fair warning though-I do love a good horror story, even if it is a little cheesy. Some people are complaining about a weak plot and such. I enjoyed it. So be forewarned!

Joe Hempel once again nailed the narration of this story. His performances always add so much to the listening experience and bring life to the characters. I'd recommend his narration any old day of the week. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

NOT HORROR! Mushy, wordy romance!

Description is misleading. It's a romance. Boring story, no character development. WORDY! Could have been told in 4 short chapters.

Why must writer's have to use the F Bomb

Didn't finished and returned because of the F bomb and like one review mentioned too much mush and romance. If I wanted romance I would go to the romance category

Don't Inherit Haunted Houses

I quite enjoyed this story even though I didn’t think that it was scary at all. I found it to be more of a thrilling mystery that had some paranormal elements. It was more of cult horror with members who possess supernatural abilities. There was a level of suspense that kept me listening and wanting to know what was going on. The plot seemed to be quite unique and while I would have liked more haunting, I was really pleased with the entire story.

The characters were fairly generic, although I enjoyed each of them. This really was a plot driven story so I don’t think the characters needed to overly developed. They were quite likeable and the relationship between Jim and Cat was quite real and I found myself really wanting them to be a couple. While a serious character with a serious personality, I found David to be somewhat of the comic relief. I think he was my favorite character in the story.

And as a side note, it is a magazine. Stop calling it a clip. All I could hear was clipty clip clip clip.

Joe Hempel did a fantastic job. His ability to breathe life into the story and really make you feel it is second to none. The tension he brings to this story was perfect as he ratchets up his voice when needed.

Nothing new and very unfocused

The narrator was great, the novel was not. It seemed like the author didn't know what they wanted the novel to be when it grew up. The characters were one dimensional and uninteresting and the plot was all over the place. It went from a haunted house story to witches, then demons, next a satanic cult, and ended with a Mashup of all of the above. Somewhere towards the end they decided that dropping the f bomb in every sentence would make it more edgy but it just seemed desperate. I do believe that the author has talent and could be very successful but they need to focus on one or two plot points and develop more interesting characters.

Avoid this book

Awful. Not well written. Amateurish. Not scary. Not suspenseful Even though the setting was creepy as well as the house. Save you credit.

Classic haunted house story with more

This is not just a classic haunted house story, it has a great story line too. The characters are real and likable and the narrator really draws you into the story. I couldn't stop listening!

I regret this purchase

I don’t even know where to start. The main character is incredibly unlikable and is committed to being an idiot the whole way through the book. I started regretting my choices maybe 2 hours into the book but I kept lying to myself that things would pick up. The dialogue is laughably bad. A woman in her 50s(probably?) in the year 2018ish literally says “I know not what it means.” Wtf? No one talks like that and it takes you right out of the story.

Also, I had read some of the other reviews and there was complaints of it being a romance story. I was like oh, that’s fine, I like Simone St James, I can deal with some romance in my mystery/thriller. NOPE. There is more build up and anticipation in Not Another Teen Movie.

2/10 just because the plot could have been cool.

It was good.

I really enjoyed the history of the villa. This is a good and original story. It pulled me in right a way. I liked the characters and the setting. There was just something missing that i can't quiet put my finger on. However, I would still read or listen to more by this author. I requested this audio book and this is my honest review.

Not really 'Haunting'

I liked this book and please, no offence to the Author, it was just not scary enough for me. The word Haunting should at least hint at a slight shudder in the dark?

A solid yarn; Chap inherits a mansion and loads of cash, trapped between a battle of good and evil of 'ye olde years ago'.

Characters likeable. Plot bit wishy washy.

Narrator, obviously a fav, (although from across the Pond), one of the few that can do both women and mens voices convincingly,. And a pleasure to listen to.

Sorry Audible, just not my cup of Tea. Although would be good at tea time for the kiddies.
