A groundbreaking book on the true nature of faith deconstruction

Alisa and Tim help the reader to deconstruct the deconstructionists and thus to respond to them, both with arguments and with love and sensitivity. This is a timely book! -- Carl Trueman, author of The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self

A movement called ‘deconstruction’ is sweeping through our churches and it is affecting our loved ones. It has disrupted, dismantled, and destroyed the faith of so many, and this book can help you not only understand what’s happening but also stand your ground and respond with clarity and confidence.

  • Maybe you have a loved one who is deconstructing their faith, and you are struggling to know how to respond;
  • Maybe you are trying to understand the radical spiritual makeover your friend or family member is going through;
  • Maybe your relationship with a loved one has been strained or even cut off because of your “toxic” Christian beliefs and you don’t know what to do;
  • Maybe you’re experiencing doubt yourself and facing hard questions about truth, God, the Bible, theology and the gospel.

Some who leave the faith feel wounded by the church. Others feel repressed by some of the moral imperatives found in Scripture. For some, it leads to a custom-made spirituality. For others, deconstructing their faith leads them away from the truth into agnosticism, atheism, the occult, or humanism.

In this seminal book, Alisa Childers, author of Another Gospel?, and Tim Barnett, creator of Red Pen Logic, will help you understand what deconstruction is, where it comes from, why it is compelling to some, and how it disorients the lives of so many. You will be able to think through the main issues around faith deconstruction and explore wise and loving ways to respond from a biblical worldview.

Honesty

This book is Good! I love their honest approach to this topic. They tell you the origins of deconstruction, its problems, and how it leads people astray. Yet they do it in a loving way, not wanting people to be swept up in this movement.

Relevant & Timely

1. Deconstruction one's faith is different than questioning why we believe what we believe and using the scriptures to ground our beliefs.
2. Very well-rounded coverage of what deconstruction is, what it isn't, why it's trending, how to respond, and what we can do.
3. The tone of the book was loving and caring and never condescending.
4. I listened to it over the span of 11 days and am going to replay it, but this time while taking some notes and doing some studying.

A superb resource!

This book is accessible, clear and helpful. I believe it is a wonderful resource for those who have family members and friends who are deconstructing. Indeed, for those who believe they are deconstructing, it is a good book for them to consider, too.

When they unpacked truth-seeking vs self-seeking. To me, that's the gist of what most reconstructions embrace...seld-seeking.

I loved the encouragement towards to end to not give up on your loved ones. I became suspicious when they referred to Augustine and John Calvin, but it wasn't a commercial for Calvinism... they made solid historical points. Overall, a very necessary book for those, like me, who have family members breaking away from the faith.

Great overview of the spiritual battle going on around us.

A well balanced approach to the issues facing all of mankind and our two feet- one in the world and one in spiritual realm. Both feet are controlled by mind and worldview.

Two powerhouses combined in one book!

I rarely ever have the time to sit and read, However, Tim and Alisa read to me over the past two days. I usually have my days filled with podcasts, but metaphorically speaking, I couldn't put this book down. Very well done, and so happy to know it was available as audio also.
I pray that it would richly bless any and all that either read or listen to what these two have to share. They, themselves, are a blessing to the faith.

Grace and truth

As a high school pastor I am extremely thankful for this book. I hope to do a series on this in the near future and strongly encourage other high school pastors and leaders to do the same.
Thank you Tim and Alisa.
