Publisher's summary

Reward seeker Colter Shaw faces a ticking clock with murderous consequences in this riveting short story.

A serial kidnapper is on the loose in a small town in Maine, targeting wealthy women and demanding a huge ransom in bitcoin for their safe return. When his latest victim’s husband claims that he can’t come up with the money, the word “deadline” takes on a disturbingly literal meaning. The local police are out of their depth, but Colter Shaw takes the lead in the investigation. Soon, he’s using his survivalist instincts to uncover clues and pursue suspects, putting his own life on the line to catch the would-be killer before the countdown hits zero.

confusing

The narrator was very good but the story felt compressed. The deductive reasoning seemed to be missing more than I am used to. I like to try and guess the perpetrators along with the main character and I was not even close nor the reasoning involved.

Great new story

From the very beginning I knew this was going to be a compelling story. It’s fast paced, action immediately drew me in not just because of the action. I feel like the Author drops hints throughout and vividly paints the characters so I couldn’t stop listening. Even as I rushed to see if my assumption was right, the skillful conclusion, despite the time I spent listening, was a real reveal for me.
I’ll enjoy this tale again now that I enjoyed it so much. Mr. Deaver always “gets” to me. I’ve read everything he’s given to us at least twice. The journey is so enjoyable, it needs to be savored.

Got a few minutes?

Time will spent for a short story. I wish I had a few more (1.5 hr) for my medical appointments.
