Story
In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.

Story
There are many things that Annah would like to forget: the look on her sister's face before Annah left her behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, her first glimpse of the Horde as they swarmed the Dark City, the sear of the barbed wire that would scar her for life. But most of all, Annah would like to forget the morning Elias left her for the Recruiters. Annah's world stopped that day, and she's been waiting for Elias to come home ever since. Somehow, without him, her life doesn't feel much different than the dead that roam the wasted city around her. Until she meets Catcher, and everything feels alive again.

"Special Circumstances": The words have sent chills down Tally's spine since her days as a repellent, rebellious ugly. Back then Specials were a sinister rumor - frighteningly beautiful, dangerously strong, breathtakingly fast. Ordinary pretties might live their whole lives without meeting a Special. But Tally's never been ordinary. And now, in the third book in the series, Tally's been turned into a Special: a superamped fighting machine engineered to keep the uglies down and the pretties stupid.

Publisher's Summary
Gabry lives a quiet life. As safe a life as is possible in a town trapped between a forest and the ocean, in a world teeming with the dead, who constantly hunger for those still living. She's content on her side of the Barrier, happy to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast while she watches from the top of her lighthouse.
But there are threats the Barrier cannot hold back. Threats like the secrets Gabry's mother thought she left behind when she escaped from the Sisterhood and the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Like the cult of religious zealots who worship the dead. Like the stranger from the forest who seems to know Gabry. And suddenly, everything is changing. One reckless moment, and half of Gabrys generation is dead, the other half imprisoned.
Now Gabry only knows one thing: she must face the forest of her mothers past in order to save herself and the one she loves

lots of teen drama and feels as if the writer wasn't 100% into her work, do not like the reader for this book, her voice is annoying and very nasally and has a very limited range.

Even better than the first!
I have been anxiously anticipating Carrie Ryan's sequel to the unexpectedly addicting Forest of Hands and Teeth. I didn't care for the narrator of that story who had all the wrong inflections, but Tara Sands does a fantastic job with Gabry in The Dead-Tossed Waves. It's utterly readable (or listenable) I finished it in less than 24 hours as I simply could not put it down. I'm assuming this is the 2nd in a series and I cannot wait for the next one!

Great Story, not in love with reader.
I liked the story, it was a little slow getting started, but it was good. the reader though had a very childish voice and her trying to portray men didn't do well. it was hard to imagine a man and not children when she was "speaking" them. I would have preferred the same reader from the first book and not changing the voice on me.

I liked it
I found the second book in this series to be much better than the first. I especially preferred this narrator. This is definitely a read for teenagers though. The drama in this series is hard to care about as an adult. Still a decent read, the action and story basis is great.

Annoying
Would you try another book from Carrie Ryan and/or Tara Sands?
I read "The Forest of Hands and Teeth" and loved the book. However, this next book in the series was a total disappointment. The main character was annoying, the voice read was annoying, and the story was pretty lame. Sorry Carrie. I'm not sure if I would try another one.
What could Carrie Ryan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The character was so whiny and weak. The love triangle was predictable. The zombies in the forest didn't feel threatening. What happened to the imagery of the girl in red running around? What happened to the thrill against the moments of calm to catch your breath in the first one? Honestly, it might have been the read. Her voice drove me crazy--especially when she tried to read guys. The only fun part of the book was when she used her mothers book to figure out the maze. More of that ---less teen drama. When you live in the apocalypse you don't care about teen drama.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She was whiny, and she did horrible male voices.

Maybe I would have liked it better if...
Would you try another book from Carrie Ryan and/or Tara Sands?
Maybe but I will have to just read it not the audible book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This is the second book i've listened to by Carrie Ryan I thought that maybe this second book the person doing the reading would be better. But absolutely not the case. Her voice is whiny which makes the character seem like a whiner. Then trying to change her voice to different character just is not a good thing. Next time I try one of her books I will read it.
Could you see The Dead-Tossed Waves being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Loved this book!!
What did you love best about The Dead-Tossed Waves?
I loved the teenage romance, very cute. And also how realistic it is.
What does Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I didn't like her voice. So I don't know.
