Nail biter and edge of the seat action!

What did you love best about The Darkness of Evil?

I really liked the surprise ending, I never saw it coming! The cadence of the story was well done, it paced out very well and the author played it out bit by bit, not too fast or slow. Vale showed real character in being both an emotional and vulnerable person as well as being a hard nosed detective. I see a new series coming from the ending as well, well done Alan!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way the story and the telling of it left a lot to my own imagination, there was not a lot of in your face gore but rather the innuendo was left in clear form for your mind to fill in what detail you need for the story. I find this to be the most important trait in writing, to little information leaves a person with a blank canvas and too much makes the painting appear to be a child's finger-painting. This telling made for a full painting telling the whole story but with minimal brush strokes.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Daniela Acitelli?

Now we come to what I didn't care for. Daniela's overly slow diction in this book was just painful! I loved her narration of 'Lady Killer' and was looking forward to another great telling but her insistently whiny and whimpy version of Karen Vale was stressful and took away from the character immensely. After checking out several of her YouTube trailers, I now understand that this is her style. I'm sorry but it's distracting, I really liked the conversational tone over the drawn-out diction.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I gave her a normal upbringing, just like any kid!

The Darkness of Evil

The story was a little slow for me in the beginning, but once you get into it a little further it was very good. The twists in it were definitely not what you expected and the the suspense at the end was great. Very enjoyable listen.

Narration is awful! Very bad “acting”.

The story and plot is GREAT!! Having a really hard time with the audible version. Onside ring returning it and just reading it myself. This is terrible so far!!!! Only 11 chapters in

Karen wants to protect Jasmine. Rosso fakes injury. With help of nurse escapes. Rosso kills both nurse and two guards.

Read the book!

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and characters in this story but could not enjoy the narration. The voice and inflection was really distracting from the story.

One of the better 'who done it's' out there

The story is a good one. Lots of story, background, movement and excitement. Definitely made me think. I listened to the audible narrated by Daniela Acitelli and, at first, I was a bit put off on her narration. Seemed almost monotone, but wasn't. Not sure exactly what it was, but, she won me over. She does an excellent job of characterization of each person in the book, and when it came to a point where Vail was stressed, I felt the stress based on the intensity of the narration.
I definitely recommend this book and will look for more in this series.

Good book, terrible narration

I love Alan Jacobson books, just recently got into audio books since I drive a lot it was a no brainer. I downloaded this one, because for some reason I missed it when it came out several years ago on my kindle. I’m 2 hours into it and my God, the narration is abominable. The whole thing sounds like every character is speaking so sarcastically that you miss some of the plot points because you can’t take them seriously. The nuance and inflection is terrible, it’s like the narrator has no idea how to paint a verbal picture. I have no idea if I can listen to this for another 8 hours. Pray for me.

Good Book, needs a better narrator...

At 14 Jasmine Marks went to the police with bloody duct tape and tried to turn her father in for being a serial killer, they didn't believe her. She tried again at 17. This time they believed her but had no evidence. When she was 21 her father was finally put in prison for life.
Ten years later she writes a book called The Serial Killer's Daughter and he vows to get her after reading her book. Roscoe Lee Marks escapes from prison and the hunt (and murders) are on a fast track right to the end. But all is not as it seems and it's up to the protagonist, Karen Vail to figure it out before the killer gets to her own son.
This is an excellent addition to the Karen Vail series. Lots of fast paced suspense and unexpected twists.
Daniela Acitelli's narration is ok but I think the book could be a better audio book with a better narrator. She does sad very well but exciting is rather monotone.
I recommend this book as well as the others in this series.

great book.

I was not expecting that, and really enjoyed this book. I would and have recommended this book to friends. I love the suspense and mystery of it. it was well written and the Mayan was great.
