Publisher's summary

Defense attorney Robin Lockwood faces an unimaginable personal disaster and her greatest professional challenge in New York Times best-selling author Phillip Margolin's next legal thriller, The Darkest Place.

Robin Lockwood is an increasingly prominent defense attorney in the Portland community. A Yale graduate and former MMA fighter, she's becoming known for her string of innovative and successful defense strategies. As a favor to a judge, Robin takes on the pro bono defense of a reprehensible defendant charged with even more reprehensible crimes. But what she doesn't know—what she can't know—is how this one decision, this one case, will wreak complete devastation on her life and plans.

As she recovers from those consequences, Robin heads home to her small town of Elk Grove and the bosom of her family. As she tries to recuperate, a unique legal challenge presents itself—Marjorie Loman, a surrogate, is accused of kidnapping the baby she carried for another couple and assaulting that couple in the process. There's no question that she committed these actions, but that's not the same as being guilty of the crime. As Robin works to defend her client, she learns that Marjorie Loman has been hiding under a fake identity and is facing a warrant for her arrest for another, even more serious crime. And buried within the truth may once again be unexpected, deadly consequences.

Not as good as the first five in this series

I’ve binged on Robin Lockwood during the last week and 5 stars for each! However, I did not enjoy this one as much as the previous Robin Lockwood books.

I don’t know why, but the author took this book in a different direction…he added some events that can’t be undone. Sorry to be so cryptic, but I don’t want to be specific as it would spoil it for others.

Molto bello

I liked all the titles in this series, but I thought this was particularly good, perhaps because it reminded me a little of my favorite Lincoln Lawyer title. I’m glad a new installment is announced for later this year! And the narrator is superb, hopefully she will stay on for the next one

Good Book!

I really like this series. I like Robin Lockwood character and the storylines and plots of the series.

I’ve enjoyed all these books so far along with the narration.

Therese Plummer does a fantastic job narrating these books. She gives everyone their own distinct voice and brings the story to life.

A Quick Listen

Admittedly, I'm a fan of Phillip Margolin stories and this was no exception. I enjoyed the pace but had my suspicions from the first encounter with Robin, the attorney! I listened to the story enthusiastically and was rather saddened when it ended! The narrator was okay!

Underdeveloped

This book came as a blind recommendation. Upon starting, it appeared to be all over the place. The characters and their situation are underdeveloped. I would not recommend using your credit for this book.

I have been a fan,...

but not to this one! My opinion is, don't use the credit. I don't want to spill the beans, but I believe that this was a set up for things to come. Maybe it was the tragic loss at the beginning, but I was just left with the thought or feeling that it was alot of time for nothing. 😕

Wtf

I hate the beginning of this book and it just set the tone for the rest of it. I hate what happened, it made me not want to finish this book.
