Notorious. Illegal. Avoid if you can.

These are words most commonly used to describe what some mistakenly call the Deep Web. Yet, the Deep Web is where your banking information sits. Your shopping profile, your saved searches, and your passwords.

What they’re really referring to is the Dark Web, and I’ll take you there - with the proper preparation and knowledge of its history. Learn who created the Dark Web and how long it’s been in existence. Discover the people who dedicated their lives to the technology that runs the Dark Web, and why they made such sacrifices. You’ll hear about those who rose to dizzying heights plumbing riches in the Darknet, and who fell because of their vanity and overconfidence.

In The Dark Web Dive, you’ll unbury the facts about:

  • The secret origin of Tor and the Tor Project
  • The uncensored history of the Dark Web, Arpanet, and its dark siblings
  • Who provides funding for the Dark Web? (You’ll be surprised.)
  • The stories behind the Silk Road, Hansa, and other infamous Dark Web marketplaces
  • The truth about the Surface Web and why Google is not to be trusted with your information, and what you can do about it
  • The technology you need to keep your internet identity safe on a daily basis
  • The chilling tales of the Dark Web. Are the urban legends coming from the Darknets based in truth?
  • Who are the heroes, and who are the villains of hidden service sites? And how do you tell one from another?
  • A step-by-step guide to suit up before you embark on your own Dark Web Dive

The answers you’ve always wanted to the questions you were perhaps too afraid to ask are here, along with a wealth of knowledge to open your eyes as to what’s really happening below the surface of the internet every day. Be one of the ones who know the truth and has the facts to arm themselves against identity theft and data farming.

Well, to keep things short it seemed like a long ad for TOR with TOR being mentioned numerous times each paragraph.

More of a "how to" book

This wasn't quite was I expected, but that's more on me and not something I can knock the book for. Based on the content, this is probably better being eye read vs listening to. Decent coverage of the technology and history, which was interesting. Some of the stories told were not really explained as being urban legends or partially factual. So, I found this part a little off-putting since it needed a little more info for the listener.

All in all, this didn't hit me as very cohesive, but rather a little scattered in topics. Overall though, it was interesting.

I was given this free audiobook at my request and have left this review voluntarily.

Very fascinating, recommended

This book offers an entertaining look at the dark web: its history, present, and future. The author takes us to the deepest parts of the dark web, including the "red rooms" and all other chilling places one expects to find in the territory without any law enforcement or civil control. The author also tries to explain the technical side of the dark web (i.e. how it actually works).
In the end, there is also a handy guide "how to explore the dark web safely", if you wish to do so.

I learned quite a bit about the dark web from this book. It was fun to go dive into the deep web. And if you like me enjoy a few scary stories, I definitely recommend it.

Just great

I have never used the darknet before and never even considered to download tor browser. This book gave me so many reasons to never browse the darknet!! I didn't care for the technical side of the dark web. But the history and the stories about what's really going on there is something highly insightful.
I definitely recommend this title to everyone who is interested in discovering the hidden world of hackers
My overall evaluation - 5/5

Superb introduction into the Dark Web world!

I was given this audiobook for my honest review.

My verdict - this is really NOT a simple audiobook.

It really feels like you're taken "for a ride" with a real dweller from the Dark Web. I don't know what achieves this effect - maybe it's the narrator style, the researched material, the very subject matter of "forbidden" part of the internet. It all works really well in this book, creating a very fascinating picture of the dark net, its history and current realities.

I liked this book on the whole, but the most interesting book parts for me were about the history of the Dark Web and the tales of the Dark Web. Some of them tales were VERY spooky...… I'd actually not recommend listening to this book in the presence of minors - some of those tales were quite shocking (especially, since they are based on real events!!).

Also, some of those technical advices on how to navigate the Dark Web were eye opening for me. It looks like it's MUCH easier than I thought.....

Net net, I really advise this book to everyone, who wants to learn about the Dark web + potentially try to browse the Dark Web on his/her own. The book clearly explains what to do and what no to do (and how!), so you shouldn't be overly worried.

I learnt a lot

I got this book for my honest review through audio boom.
This is a very well put together story of the secret internet, so secret that not many of us actually are aware of it! There was a lot of historical info, lots of stories which I never knew could happen right in front of us, in the 'other' part of the internet.

I'm a dark web 'virgin' so to speak, so the book was a real discovery for me.

My best recommendations!
