clear, useful, and important

The contents of this book would be most useful to those who will never read it, unfortunately. But we all evolved irrational heuristics and need to consciously assist our thought patterns to get things right. Pinker lays out a guidebook of sorts to assist in thinking more clearly. Good reminders and a good read.

Last few chapters best

The book is extremely useful, but also challenging. It humbled me in facing the intricacies of logic and probability and how counterintuitive they can be. The book also encourages me in clarifying that I do think rationally often and that I’m open and reflective in my thinking process. It’s an excellent book to fight complacency, which can undo even conscientious people into forgetting their way.

Good plead to Rationality and human race

An interesting approach to Rationality and how it is still missing in the majority of humanity. Although some parts can be argued to be controversial, it is the interpretation that makes it so. A valuable read

Difficult to know the direction on the first read.

This is another well written book by Pinker. But because the nature of the topic is sometimes difficult to define, having the PDF to refer to during the read would be very helpful for detail retention.

Another witty must-read by this vanguard thinker!

Reading a book by Stephen Pinker is always a great pleasure. He's clever, witty, and researches his topics thoroughly. The socially importance of this book cannot be overstated. Pinker lays out a case for what many call skepticism. Apparently he's on the vanguard of field, too. It's truly impressive. The insight and cultural commentary in this book is phenomenal. Everyone needs to read this book.

The audio performer deserves special mention. He does a great job!

A great book

It’s a great book similar to the Enlightenment Now. It’s worthwhile having. Some of the chapters maybe difficult to comprehend like the ones that address statistics and causality. However, overall it broadens one’s understanding of rationality.

Enjoyed the Bayesian chapter

I thought the discussion on priors and base rates alone worth the listen. Worth getting.

Speaking rationally

This guy is amazing. I admit to backing up now and then; he gets ahead of me. He challenges your way of thinking. Do yourself a favor and listen. The book is so good, I'm getting the hardcover as a reference source.

Great content but some sections require pdf

loved the explanation of rationality. If you're not somewhat familiar with logic diagrams and tables, be sure to have the pdf available while listening.

It is difficult to be completely rational

The core material was excellent. The examples illustrating the concepts were pretty good except when they were political. Then his examples themselves might have been used to illustrate "My-sidedness" and the failure to listen to what people the author disagrees with and belittles have to say. Still it is a valuable book about rationality.
