Story
They call her Blister. She's a hideously disfigured 23-year-old woman, living in a shed next to her father's house, hidden away from the world. Jason Tray is a successful cartoonist, banished to his agent's lakeside cabin for a few days of mandatory rest and relaxation. One night, while hanging out with a couple of the locals at a dive bar, he takes them up on their offer to go "see Blister," having no idea what they're talking about.

Story
It was passed down from generation to generation. The legend of The Dark'Un, the strange beast that roamed Pale Dove Mountain. The dark monster that no one had ever seen - at least not and lived to tell about it - except, so it was said, old Fletcher Brice who lived at the foot of the mountain. No one really believed in The Dark'Un. It was just a story to make a child's flesh crawl.

Story
Lydia McCloud meets Arthur Danse at a wedding party in Plymouth, N.H., and she thinks he's a man she could grow to love. Arthur sees things differently. In Lydia, he sees the sort of woman people always want to protect. He decides he's going to show her she wouldn't always be protected. Once their only child, Robert, is born, Arthur's behavior worsens. When the courts become involved, the nightmare really begins. This scathing novel is an indictment of a justice system that makes a mockery of its very name.

Ladies' Night is a non-stop rollercoaster ride of sheer nerve rattling terror, previously deemed too violent for mass market publication. Story
His touch can heal or harm. His fate is solitary. His agony belongs to us all…He was born on a day of pain: November 22, 1963. He came of age in agony: that moment of tragedy when fun-loving rock-and-roll deejay Paul Handler discovered the inexplicable power in his own hands. It is the power to make the wounded whole again. The power to make the lame walk and to heal the sick. It is a power that will sap his soul and plunge him into the world of a famous faith healer. It is a power that can turn to rage, even murder. It is a gift that makes Paul Handler a living, breathing human sacrifice. For thousands of years, a secret cabal has guarded the lineage to which Paul is heir — scapegoats who have been forced to bear humanity's anguish upon themselves. Now, while the cabal searches for him, and one man seeks to destroy him, Paul makes a lonely, frightening journey to the core of his identity and to his destiny … to all the pain his soul can bear, to all the redemption he can give, to the freedom that is death.

A suicidal nudist strolls into traffic. An eccentric Buddhist claims he can occupy other people's bodies. All the while, whispers of a new form of entertainment blow through town. Prompted by these strange occurrences, Marty Raft, a not-so-gentle giant, investigates and discovers underground clubs peddling music that induces an out-of-body experience. Marty and a wannabe comedian, Corey, set out to prove these special frequencies are nothing more than a hoax, or at worst, a mass-drugging. Instead, they uncover a secret with world-ending possibilities.

The antique telephone sat in the darkness in the attic. Dust and cobwebs obscured its once gleaming surface. Wires hung limply from its rusted innards. We've all seen them - the stubborn tail-gater who follows too close, for too long...the wild driver who weaves through lanes on a crowded highway...the driver who causes accidents but is never a victim of one. These are the jackals, hunters who follow the nation's highways and byways, preying on the weak and unsuspecting. Jim Scott's been hunting jackals for some time now. They took someone he loved, once, and he's never forgiven them. And Jim doesn't fight alone.

Publisher's Summary
It's the Arizona Territory. The year, 1848. The year the Mexican War ended. Fate and blazing pistols have just thrown together reporter and part-time drunk Marion T. Bell and the very nearly legendary John Charles Hart, mustanger and scout, in the Little Fanny Saloon. Plying the river-trade across the Colorado to the gold fields of California in the north, and war-torn Mexico to the south, the town of Gable's Ferry has sprung up overnight-lacking only a church, a schoolhouse and a jail.
Though some would say that only the jail was needed.
A rough place in a lawless era. About to become a hell of a lot more so one night when Hart, Bell and the easy-going giant Mother Knuckles stumble upon Elena, a fierce, young, badly wounded Mexican woman near the banks of the Colorado. She's naked. She's been bullwhipped, knifed and branded. And she tells them about the kidnap, rape and servitude she and her sister have endured at the hands of las hermanas de lupo, the deadly Valenzura Sisters and their henchman, the deserter Paddy Ryan, at the well-manned slave-camp across the river aptly called Garanta del Diablo-Mouth of the Devil.
It's just three hundred years since Cortez. Only three hundred years since the Old Gods of Mexico were in their full and fearsome flower.
Tezcatlipoca, god of the moon and the night. Tlazolteotl, Eater of Filth. Xipe, Lord of the Flayed.
Blood for rain. Blood for bounty.
For many, like the Valenzura Sisters, they have never died.
And Elena's sister's still there.
This will be a Crossroad Press production.

Western/Horror
WARNING: this book contains rape and gore.
THAT DRY TIT
If you are still reading I assume that the warning will not keep you from listening. This is part of what is starting to become a new genre. It could be called Weird West as John Joseph Adams calls it or I prefer Western Horror. Cormac McCarthy and Joe R. Lansdale often write in this genre. Child of God by McCarthy would be a good example. Mike Resnick is also starting to put out books with a more humor slant in this category. If well written, this could be become a very popular genre. This novella by Ketchum is very well written, is certainly entertaining and has several scenes that will make you cringe. There is one involving a game the bad guys play that I will never forget. I have read a lot of horror and never come upon something like this scene.
In these horror/westerns, the bad guys are as evil as you can get, the good guys can seem a little grey, as living in the wild wild west can cause a man to become hardened or else he will not survive. The good guys in this are actually heroes. These westerns also include the banter of men living away from women for long periods of time, often very funny banter. Anyways this book is very violent, gory, funny and entertaining. I loved it and hope to be able to listen to more of such like.

Emo triggers, be warned.
This is a well written really rough story. The bad guys are probably worse than you imagine. The victims are victims with all capital letters. Our heroes rise to the occasion but in the end a couple will die.
If you have difficulty with extreme violence toward women, do not read this book. If you are squeamish, do you not read this book. If you believe in fairytale happy endings, do not read this book.
If you enjoy a walk on the Grimm and Darkside give it a try it’s short and enjoyable.

Gritty western novella
This was an excellent novella;it was dark, grim, and gritty. It was also rather well written with interesting characters and a classic plot. If was very much the kind of book you would enjoy if you like Blood Meridian or Bone Tomahawk as it has the same bleak and gruesome feel. The narrator was also superb. The only complaint I have is the shortness, though it was a perfect lazy afternoon read. Jack Ketchum is a gem and also the only author to write something that I had real nightmares from(Girl Next Door) so I will always give his books a fair shake.

Not My Cup Of Tea
I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. The story begins as a horror story and never let up. I am not a fan of horror but promised to write an honest review. It is a western with all of the western details. But it also shows the underbelly of the west. The details were vivid and horrifying. I guess i was not prepared for that. I love westerns but this one creeped me out. The narrator was very good and made me experience the details presented.
