Publisher's Summary

The hunt for a killer in San Francisco becomes a dizzying game of cat and mouse in a thrilling novel of psychological suspense.

“Lombard is your Moriarty, Frost. Taking him down will be the most dangerous thing you’ve ever done.”

San Francisco homicide detective Frost Easton hadn’t seen his estranged friend Denny in years. Not until he dies in Frost’s arms uttering a final inexplicable word: Lombard. Denny appears to be the latest victim in a string of murders linked by a distinctive clue: the painting of a spiraled snake near the crime scenes. Is it the work of a serial killer? Or is Denny’s death more twisted and personal?

To find the answer, Frost reaches into a nest of vipers - San Francisco’s shady elite - where the whispered name of Lombard is just one secret. Now, drawn into a cat-and-mouse game with an enemy who knows his every move, Frost finds there is no one he can trust. And somewhere down the crooked streets of the city, Frost’s cunning adversary is coiled and ready to strike again.

I'm tiring of this series!

The novel is excellent and the narration is outstanding, but too much remains unresolved. I'll probably listen to the next novel in the Frost Easton series, but the plot seems to go nowhere. The novels in this series are not stand alone.

Still finding his way

I like this series but it requires a healthy amount of suspension of disbelief. This book goes deep into conspiracy territory and doesn't really resolve it satisfactorily by the end of the book. He is setting up a Moriarty figure (a direct quote) for Frost so the mystery falls a little flat at the end. The whole romance angle feels forced and formulaic but at least it doesn't get in the way of the main plot.

Watch Who You Trust

I purchased on members only sale as I love Joe Barretts narrations. I like this series best from the author. I can only hope author continues with this hero as the settings in San Francisco are great and you are right there at the Fishermans Wharf eating crabs or hearing the Seals bark from their platform. The Publisher summery is spot on so need to add to it. The author left himself plenty of room to add more stories to this series. I love Shack character and Frost’s family. Our hero always takes the high ground. Whatever you do, do not read book #3 before #2 as it will spoil book #2 This ending will wow you with an Oh my!!! I do use the 1.25x speed. Give it a try? Were my comments of help?

A very crooked street it is!

Talk about twists and turns; this book is full of them! And then the ending blows me away! I'm still asking what just happened; I was suspicious but didn't see that coming! There has to be a sequel and it better be soon! Although a little slow in the beginning, the plot picked up as more people died and you still didn't know who the head bad guy was! At least the protagonist was as confused and taken in as I was! So glad I stuck with it! Not so fond of the narrator; the changes of voices was just not suiting to the characters.

Wow

This was a thrill ride. Brian Freeman did it again. I love Detective Frost Easton, his family, his tuxedo cat, and his hippy artistic friend that helps out on the case. Definitely recommend.

Boring.

This was a very uneventful, slow book. It’s a good thing it was so short!

Brilliant

Just briliant.. Really enjoyed all the 3 books but i wish there was a 4th !!!! Is there one to come i hope ??? I just love Shak, the books wouldnt be the same without him and Frost deserves to live in that house together for many years to come and what about Tabby ? Maybe she will have second thoughts ????I I certainly didnt see Fox coming though, what a twist that was. All in all a great 3 books and personally i think you should read them all because you then have the background of the main characters. I am certainly going to look for more books by this author but these 3 will take some beating
