The Constable

The was my first Audiobook, I really enjoyed it. If you are a fan of the of the Renegade Star series this is a really good prequel to learn how Alphonse Malloy ticks. I really enjoyed Charlie Thurston’s reading, he is very talented, he cashed his voice for each character and kept them consistently good.

Not bad, not great

I wish the Narrator had taken the time to listen to the rest of the Renegade books and had tried harder to incorporate some of that performance (and pronunciations) to the series. It would have made it flow better.

I also don't like how "iamverysmart" Alfonse is in this, I know he has a lot of work to grow but damn, if you knew this guy in real life with that kind of tactless "i know more than you" attitude you'd probably want nothing to do with him. Glad he grew out of it though. I got this book cause I finished all the existing Renegade books and wanted more from that universe, but honestly I could take it or leave it. But it was fun to revisit some older characters.

A fluff piece

A decent story. Not sure it it’s worth the credit. If you’ve gone through everything else you can listen to and liked the Renegade Star series then you won’t go wrong with this story.

Fun read

This was a good, pulp-like space opera which reminded me of the fun that I had reading E.E. Doc Smith or early Heinlein. We'll paved. Good fun.

An ok book for younger readers

A little shallow. Probably for an audience younger than me. Would be fine as a teaching device for middle school

Ok

Not exceptional but decent. The story held my interest while listening but not enough to make me look forward to listening the next day. It had so much potential and could have been really great, but just fell short over and over. I won’t be continuing with the author.

Absolutely amazing story

Alphonse has always been my favorite Renegade Star character. This book does an exceptional job showing his origin and presenting it in a way that doesn't require you to read the main series to appreciate it. What's even cooler is that both of his books are packaged together in this set, which is just too good to pass up. Thanks for the incredible journey, JN!

Becoming The Constable

I loved hearing the backstory out one of my favorite characters in the Renegade Universe!

Can’t get enough!

I love these books from Chaney! The renegade star universe and these back stories of main characters in the Star series are great. The Constable did not disappoint! Would highly recommend

Nice to learn the backstory… but ….

As a huge Renegade fan, I was happy to stumble across this as another character backstory having thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the “nun” in her separate backstory publication. The problem is I’m having listened to the Renegade series and this narrator’s take on Al’s voice being completely off the mark from the Renegade narrator’s take on it. Having listened to Al’s voice throughout numerous audiobooks in that series, it was really difficult to accept this one. For this series itself, book 1 was slower than book 2, but I can understand why. Would like a better understanding of what’s the deal with Al’s parents, though … definitely an unanswered question.
