INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER

A high-octane and “hugely entertaining” (Chris Pavone, New York Times bestselling author) thriller about a supercomputer and the secrets we keep from one another—perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, Harlan Coben, and Gillian Flynn.

Millions of letters arrive in the mail.

Murders are uncovered, affairs revealed, family secrets exposed.

These are the first Confessions.

This is our last chance.

LLIAM is the world’s most powerful supercomputer, built to make the toughest decisions for its users. Where to work, who to marry, and even who should live or die. But when LLIAM suddenly goes offline with no explanation, the world is thrust into chaos, paralyzed by indecision. Stocks plummet, stores are shuttered, planes sit grounded on runways as humanity scrambles to re-adapt to an uncertain, analog world.

Then the first letters arrive…on every continent, in every language, mysterious envelopes arrive in the mail, exposing people’s darkest secrets, and most shocking crimes. All beginning with the same chilling words: “We must confess.”

With millions of people suddenly made to confront their past transgressions, and society fast unraveling, CEO Kaitlan Goss must track down the only person who can help undo the resulting violent chaos: Maud Brookes, an ex-nun who taught LLIAM what it means to be human. But when Maud receives a letter herself, revealing Kaitlan’s own unforgivable sin, the two women are forced into a deadly game of deceit as the world teeters on the brink.

“A timely, ticking clock thriller with unforgettable characters and psychological twists and turns you won’t see coming. Read it. You won’t regret it” (Sarah Pinborough, author of We Live Here Now).

Very much enjoyed The Confessions! Well written, loved the twists and turns wrapped in a modern-day Ai fueled world!

Buckle up! Twists and turns wrapped in an AI theme

This is a well told tale of artificial intelligence “waking up!” A cautionary story for today. Enjoyable read.

New take on an old story…lovely!

Paul has brought us memorable characters (especially 2 cool women protagonists), a gripping, multi-layered plot, and an opportunity to reflect on the evolving role of AI. The Confessions is fun, thrilling & profound!

A page turner thriller that makes you think

This book brilliantly brought together a speculative thriller with literary fiction. Great story. Excellent narration. I enjoyed the fast pace & various points of views from the characters. It makes you question all the technology available to us currently & what may await us in the future.

Realistically Terrifying. Undeniably Thrilling

This was a convoluted mess that has forced me to start writing down where I’ve heard about a book and/or why I’ve downloaded or ordered one, because I need to discount the source of this recommendation. Honestly, if you told me AI wrote some of this nonsense, I’d believe you. The story was all over the place, the premise was a massive stretch, and the characters made no sense to themselves, even as simple and cliche as they were. And the ending? Good grief! Was the author on a word count, realized they hit it, and packed it in ASAP? That’s how it felt. Like all the buildup to an ending fizzled, and it just finished. Just don’t bother with this one.

Convoluted

Poorly written. The story had some potential but was not well executed. Too much wasted time on insignificant details and not believable. I will not read another Paul Carr book. The NY Times was totally wrong on this one. The narrator is losing her mind on every word she utters. She gets off on the each word. Like... physically. It's gross. Overly expressive and annoying. Every word out of her mouth is the most important thing the world has ever heard. Allyson Ryan, I will never read another book she is involved with. She's horrid. Just a couple of clowns. And Audible refuses to let me return it. Just yuck all around.

Waste of Time, Not a Good Book
