Better the devil you know than the devil you don't...
A deadly new enemy rules Alesia with an iron fist - and an unnatural interest in the magic of the Confectioner's Guild. Betrayed by one of their own, Wren and her few remaining allies flee Maradis to secure whatever aid they can find.
But new dangers and old ghosts lurk around every corner, forcing Wren to confront truths she thought she'd buried deep long ago. Will Wren be able to piece together an alliance, and enough of her own shattered heart, to take back her home from those who hold it hostage? Or will her magic prove too tempting a morsel for her enemies to refuse...
Don't miss this thrilling conclusion to the Confectioner Chronicles!

The only issue with the writing is the fight scenes are basic and choppy. I wasn't really excited about them.
I enjoyed the narrator s usual. She gave a real voice to Wren and made other characters distinct.
Overall this was a fun series with a good finale.

This world, full of magically infused food and drink, is such a unique and well constructed place, it easily draws you in. I love the use of food metaphors when describing things, it adds so much more to the perspective, and brings food and drink that more more to the forefront. And the use of food based expletives is perfect (“You scared the sugar out of me!) Everything drives home how much food plays a part in the lives of these characters. It’s their very essence.
The revolt against the new emperor is full of twists and turns. With alliances and betrayals, loyalties seemingly flip like pancakes (see, the food metaphors are contagious!). It’s a roller coaster ride of events and emotions all the way to the end. There are some very sweet relationship moments between Wren and Lucas, but especially Tom and Trick. I found myself smiling a lot whenever we got to see them together. The action is heart pounding and fast paced, and and story line likes with twist and turn, keeping you guessing.
The ending was the perfect conclusion to the story. It worked so well, and left me very satisfied with the outcome. I’m sad that the trilogy is over, but I enjoyed every minute of the ride.
Fantastic conclusion for the trilogy

When the 2nd book ended my main thought was "Oh, how are they going to fix this?" And, honestly, I spent most of this book wondering that, too. Which I really enjoyed. I like reading books that I can't just automatically guess how things will go.
The Confectioner's Truth picks up not long after The Confectioner's Coup. There is a new emperor in power and the guilds are beginning to band together, for once, against him. And then there's Hale. Oh Hale, what are we going to do with you?
A lot, apparently. Hale finds himself caught up in the midst of the new regime's efforts to gain a firmer foothold in their newly conquered country. Meanwhile Wren and the rest of the Confectioner's Guild aren't about to bow to their new leader without a fight. But are they prepared to fight to the death for their home?
The author does a great job of hurting my precious babies. In fact, there is one character we get to know in this book that is very... inventively cruel. That's all I can say without spoiling anything.
This universe is so unique I literally would pay to read a history of this world that Claire has invented, including full write-ups about all the gods and what they stand for. But, then, I am a total nerd.
All in all, this was a great conclusion to a great series.
The final book!
