Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Remedial Read: Level 4th or 5th
Nothing profound or really insightful here. This book is basically a list of light stories about common sense subjects peppered with the usual “super achiever” quotes. I’m judging this book harsher because of this authors reference to Jim Rohn being his mentor. By that metric this book is super weak. Let me save everyone 4-6 hours of their lives and $15 by telling you that little incremental things add up to big things. Baby steps, persistence, accountability, choices, the end.

Amazing! With one exception.. action items excluded
This book’s content is a 5/5! I learned so much! It was a quick read with so much value in every chapter. The only downside to this audiobook in my opinion though was at the end of each chapter, the author would say to refer to the book for the chapter action items. I was disappointed that such practical applications were not included in the audio. I purchased the audio book to get all the content, not all content except the action items.

Just ok. If you read/listened to Atomic habits you can skip this one
If I had to extract the most helpful and useful information from this book, it would be about building good habits and eliminating bad ones, and if this the case- you should read “Atomic habits”.
Basically the “compound effect” is derived from your good habits, so again, there are better resources on the subject than thus book.
Why listen to this one? Easy listen. Might refresh what you already know or introduce you to these concepts.

Change your life with small steps
this book doesn't present any new science or discovery. What it preaches has long been known to us; it's the small things done consistently that make the difference
after reading this book, I had the urge to make changes in my life. This book was written well, well enough to give me the kick in the bum
if I had 1 criticism, it would be that the research done on this book wasn't deep enough to my liking. for example, when he talked about health, he usually referred to dr Oz.
Or when he talked about the time Oprah gave away a car to every audience member, saying that it was Oprah who went the extra mile when im fact that giveaway was fully sponsored by Pontiac to promote their new car model
Being a nut for proper facts it does bother me, but I wouldn't let that get in the way of me appreciating a well written book. Anyone who wants to change their life should read this

Success Magazine advertisement disguised as a book
A basic idea that everyday work compounds to bug results. True, but not fleshed out to anything useful. There is no practice advice on how to apply the theory or how this differs from any other self help book that pushes discipline. Disappointing.

Life isn't this simple
I can't finish listening to this self-righteous douche. Good for him that his life has worked out just peachy. Not everyone starts out with the same opportunities and circumstances. It's not as simple as work hard and make good choices. Those are both good things to do, but they won't make everyone a millionaire with an awesome life in every way.

Shockingly bad and misguided
Purchased this as a recommendation from a friend. I could not be more disappointed. gave me a laugh at least.
Spoiler: the author says.
Stress, Suffering = Success = happiness
His idea of success seems to be monetary gain. Success is made to sound like something so far out of reach that you’ve almost got to kill yourself to get it.
It’s full of ridiculous examples like the compound effect of eating 150 less calories a day over time is the formula for losing weight. He then goes onto say ‘knowledge is not power’. He hasn’t got a clue what power actually is.
If you want to end up chasing the American dream, only to discover your are physically and emotionally broken and unfulfilled by reaching your goals - this is the book for you.

Valuable idea but...
The core idea of The Compound Effect is that a small change sustained over an extended period of time can have a big impact. This is a really valuable idea. However, in my opinion, there are two fairly substantial issues with this book. Firstly, it was written in about 2010 and its hasn’t aged well, using Lance Armstrong and Donald Trump as exemplars of success. Secondly, the basic premise of the book is to apply the concept of compound interest to habits and behaviours. In practice this doesn’t always work. Losing weight, for example, has the reverse effect... the more you lose, the less calories your body naturally burns through normal activity, so a greater calorie deficit is required! As a result, many of the examples and anecdotes don’t entirely make sense. I also didn’t really enjoy the author’s demonisation of social media and tv and even reading fiction... everyone is different and many people get value from what he clearly sees as mindless pursuits. In my opinion, what is really important to consider is the intention or mindfulness of how you use such things. So yeah, I quite enjoyed the book in general and the basic idea is valuable, but I would take it with a bit of a pinch of salt.

A real mixture.
This book is definitely worth a read as there is very good content to take from however there are parts that made me feel a little uneasy, for example the advice on relationships and the ones to have are from those you can either grow from or match your own ambitions. A little robot like and snooty, after all we are all unique and just because a friend has less money or ambition or even a different mentality shouldn’t mean that friendship should be disregarded. The positives of this book is that there is a lot of good practices and some content does sharpen the mind.
That’s my opinion anyhow so have a read a decide for yourself. Enjoy !

Wow.....
This book is enough to get anyone motivated and off their butt. It’s a book about reality and speaks honestly.
Once you’ve owned up to being in the place you’re in in your life because of choices you’ve made, it’s no one else’s fault, you will realise the world is your oyster and by being the exception you can and will become successful.
I will continue to listen to this book, it’s one of the best I’ve heard.
Thank you, Darren

The value that this book adds to your life is priceless. We already know deep down that our daily habits are what create our current reality, physical, financial, health, relationships and so on. The daily habits we do over time compound into the success/failures we encounter. Although we know this, we rarely practice this on a day to day basis in our lives. Habits are the foundation of all the results in our lives (Both positive and negative).
There are two ways that we can improve our lives daily:
1. Unlearn bad habits
2. Learn new good habits
We are always seeking quick fixes as a solution a diet, pill or a get rich scheme. The truth is that we are accountable for the results that we are getting in all aspects of our lives wether that be financially, physically, in our relationships and so on.
These micro actions add up to macro results over time. You may not see the results now but know under the surface progress is being made. Just like the story of the Chinese bamboo tree that doesn't even break through the ground in it's first four years of growth, then shoots up to over 90ft in just a few weeks.
For actionable advice that will literally change your life and perspective. LISTEN.TO.THIS.BOOK.

My favourite book of all time!
Been listening to this for a good 8 years now. The principles are everything which I stand for.
Small changes + consistency + time = radical results. One of the most practical books out there. Highly recommend if you have not listened!

rubbish American nonsense
I got about 20 minutes in. The author constantly says it's a no nonsense guide with no fat or faff, but then goes on to just that, fat and faff. Absolute nonsense for morons and people who want tall tales. Its basically one of them awful videos you come across on the internet that tells you for 20 minutes that they will teach you so much and list what they will teach you, but then dont actually tell you nothing. irritating generic American shouty voice.

Gives a different perspective
Interesting read, did find some of it a little Too American. But some good simple points and ideas that can have a massive impact on your life. Will certainly take some of the advise and put it into play.

I already bought the book stop selling me
We have a saying in surgery, when a surgeon walked into a patient’s room they want the patient to know that they’re the best technical, most up-to-date surgeon ever and so they spend a lot of time telling the patient that. What we found from talking to patients is they assume technical excellence that’s why you’re the surgeon in this big hospital, what they want his connection and to know that you care about them.
I already assume that the author of this book knows what he’s talking about, and perhaps a cursory mention of his credentials is appropriate, but you can skip about 20 minutes of the book where he’s just constantly selling himself and proving why he should be writing it and why you should be listening.
Needs to be punchier, get to the point quicker. People who listen to success books, you can usually assume a level of competence and excellence but they are trying to Finesse. This is 101
This is for the beginner

performance sounded like a infomercial...
the book itself is good and has value and I would recommend it to most people
but
the writer just does a horrible job narrating!
he sounds like a informational all the time Loki's trying to sell a vacuum cleaner or something.
I know saving money is important you talked about it in this book but don't be a cheap bugger and pay for an experienced narrator next time

Narration spoils the book
I wish I had bought the kindle version and I wish the author hadn’t read his work like a late night infomercial. Please record it again and read it aloud as though talking to a friend. Just talk to us.

Glad I didn't pay for this
A bit of a waste of time, one of the few books I couldn't finish. The guy speaks like he's trying to sell something on TV and doesn't actually come up with anything original. Basically just a poor version of the book atomic habits which was an easier listen. I stopped listening when he quotes Rudy Guiliani and Donal Trump.

Same old story.
If you have read other motivational books then you have read this one. Same old ideas reimagined. Title doesn’t really reflect the subject matter either.
