Publisher's summary

There was no warning. No chance to escape. They came suddenly. Naked. Bloodthirsty. Sadistic. They descended upon the Pine Village Apartment Complex, relentlessly torturing and killing anyone they could find.

Fearing for their lives, the residents of the complex must band together. A young trans woman, a suicidal middle-aged writer, a lonely Vietnam vet, a newlywed couple, an elderly widow, a single mother and her son, two on-the-run criminals, and the serial killer known as The Exit. Eleven strangers. The only thing they have in common is the unstoppable horde that wants to kill them. If they are to make it through the night, they must fight back.

Keene in fine form & Williamson is sublime

If you're a fan of apocalyptic horror in the vein of 28 Days Later, this book will not disappoint. Keene is great at creating fully fleshed out characters that you easily become invested in, which is all the more devastating when they come to a gory end. Chet Williamson, a fine horror scribe in his own right, is stupendous in his narration. Changing cadence and tone to portray characters as varied as a single mom & her son, an older Italian widow & her cat, a black Vietnam vet, a transgender woman and even a serial killer convinced his crimes are protecting the Earth from inter dimensional horrors. A must for Keene fans and a great introduction to those unfamiliar with his works.

I am NOT okay!!!

I loved this book!!
Not gonna lie… it made me shed some tears!
Right at the start I was assaulted by an action packed and gruesome punch to the face. It didn’t stop there… the rest of the story continue with an upper-cut to the gut. Just when I thought “okay, maybe I can make a come back” Brian Keene said “FINISH HER” and that was it…. He finished me with a TKO conclusion.
I’m left here, battered, bruised and broken hearted. I’m not sure how long my recovery process will take…. But, it’ll be a while until I can mend myself together again.
Thank You Brian Keene. May I have another?

PS. I’d like to thank Crossroads Press for providing me with the audiobook. It was KILLER!!

Intense and Action Packed

This book moves fast! It does a great job with pacing if you're someone who likes action packed pages. it rarely slows down. The narrator isn't my favorite but does a decent job.

Fine but Ultimately Unsatisfying

I love most of Keene’s books, but this one was disappointing. It was just an endless slog of pointless violence that ultimately came to nothing. There was no real story or resolution, no explanation for why the psychos were attacking, no connection to his larger universe, etc. Just a bunch of loonies killing people. If you like nonstop splatterhorror, you’ll probably like this. I usually don’t mind that myself, but this one was ultimately a largely pointless waste of time.

One note, though- if you didn’t like this, don’t let it dissuade you from his other books. Most of them are degrees of magnitude better, more complex, and more interesting than this one. And if you did like it, cool! :)

Love Brian Keene

My favorite thing about Keene is that his stories tie together, but each book can stand on its own. I liked this fast paced, no explanation, no apology type of story. Although the animal parts were heartbreaking.
Chet Williamson is great as narrator, as always.

Yep, that was a horror story.

I enjoyed it well enough. Fast, nasty, and fun. It is decent for a shorter story. It didn't give explanations, but it also didn't promise to or owe us. I liked about half the characters and thought the rest fairly cookie cutter. Worth the read.

Fast paced, get after it old fashioned HORROR

In typical Mr. Keene fashion, this a lean, fast paced, old school B-movie horror! Love it!

Should have been called The Simple

This was a woefully mediocre story. Anytime a horror story skips over an origin for the monster, the author has failed.
