Publisher's summary
Uncover the greatest stories of Jack London with this complete collection for the modern listener.
With his immense talent for weaving together deep philosophical themes and profound reflections on 19th century society, Jack London was a literary titan who left a lasting impact on American literature. Now, this gripping collection shares some of his greatest works, compiling the sweeping narratives and compelling characters that earned London his place as a writer to be remembered.
Through these stories, listeners will be transported to the frozen Yukon, the icy north Pacific, and the heart of upper-class bourgeoise society, all interlaced with sharp philosophical criticisms and brought to life through London’s vivid prose and expert imagery.
Books included:
- "The Call of the Wild", a classic story about one sled dog’s journey to embrace his inner wolf.
- "White Fang", the spiritual counterpart to "The Call of the Wild", and a thrilling analysis of the equally brutal worlds of man and nature.
- "The Sea-Wolf", a powerful survival story featuring a legendary seafaring captain and the soft, city-dwelling man who becomes part of his crew.
- "Martin Eden", which explores powerful themes of social class, wealth, fame, and Nietzschean philosophy.
- And "To Build a Fire", a harrowing story of one man’s battle for survival in the frozen wastes of the Yukon.
And more....
Rich with themes of naturalism and individualism, this collection provides contemporary listeners with a fascinating glimpse into the legacy of Jack London. This book is a must-listen for lovers of classic American literature, as well as for anybody who wants to gain a deeper look into the attitudes and ideas of the turn of the 19th century.

Story
Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Story
The First World War created the modern world. A conflict of unprecedented ferocity, it abruptly ended the relative peace and prosperity of the Victorian era, unleashing such demons of the 20th century as mechanized warfare and mass death. It also helped to usher in the ideas that have shaped our times - modernism in the arts, new approaches to psychology and medicine, radical thoughts about economics and society - and in so doing shattered the faith in rationalism and liberalism that had prevailed in Europe since the Enlightenment.

The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Story
In The Road, Jack London embraces the concepts of unconfined individualism and Darwinism through his autobiographical account of his time riding the rails of Canada and the United States. The author of White Fang, The Call of the Wild, and Sea Wolf, relays the time leading up to turning point in his life - a perfunctory trial and a 30-day imprisonment in the Erie County Penitentiary for the crime of vagrancy - an experience so degrading that he turned to a career in writing.
