Good stories bad narrator

I read the HG Wells collection and the stories were about as good but I liked them so much better because each story was told by a different famous actor who brought life to the story. This whole collection is read by one guy who almost never doesn’t sound like he is clearly trying (and sometimes struggling) to read aloud. He makes it hard to get into the stories.
Jules Verne clearly likes to go into too much detail about all things scientific (and I love science, but he goes into so much detail that it detracts from the overall story) and the narrator’s monotone makes it even more tedious. I had to read one story at a time and then read a few other books in between because this was so boring.

So my recommendation is to try a sample first.

A must-have for fans of Verne stories and a good way of getting the kids interested by using it like "bed-night" stories or long travels.

Great narrator

Great narrator for these classic Jules Verne tales. Sometimes an old book is a monotonous and droning listen. This narrator has the perfect tone and inflection. It seems authentic to the story but understandable with life.

Just amazing

I love Jules Verne and his stories alot. Jim D. Johnston was just fantastic at narrating this great collection of beloved classics. I'm really wanting to hear more of his work. My Favorite story is still Journey to the Center of the Earth but Jim made me love 20,000 Leagues a little more.

I Geel Like a Better Person For Having Listened

I feel like a better informed, more well-read person for having read this collection on Audible. It gave me many hours of joy and thought. My favorite of the three stories was one I did not even know about, The Mysterious Island! A great story, and outstanding performance by the narrator!
