Publisher's Summary

Annie's life is deliciously full as the Christmas season approaches. She helps her husband, Samuel, attend to the community's minor medical needs. She occasionally assists Belinda, the local midwife, and most days, she finds herself delivering the buggy to her brother, Adam. Annie's sister-in-law, Leah, is due to deliver their first child before Christmas morning, and Annie is determined to finish a crib quilt before the boppli arrives. With six weeks to go, she should have no problem... but God may have a different plan. Leah is rushed to the English hospital when the infant arrives early, and Annie discovers the Christmas quilt may hold a far greater significance than she ever imagined.

The Bonds of Family, Quilting and Babies

This wonderful tale of two first time expectant mothers awaiting the birth of their boppli while quilting and facing the daily challenges of Amish life warmed my heart. The strained relationships between the widow, Rachel, who had bought the country store was a mystery to everyone. Rachel had moved from Ohio to Pennsylvania with her two young sons to be near family. When some of the family had finally had enough, wise Jacob Weaver, the crippled patriarch who saw beyond the terse words, turned the situation into an opportunity to teach his son, Adam about pain . . . and love. The quiet, contemplative ways of the Amish have long had an impact on me, as many Amish moved in close to my childhood home in Kentucky, and I’ve had opportunity to talk and buy their goods over the years from generations of the same family. As from a different time and place, a goodness, a solidness prevails with them, one which has seemingly slipped away from most Americans. So, listening to The Christmas Quilt was a balm to my soul. The Amish are not without problems, not without conflict, or pain. And I’m very glad that the author hasn’t candy coated their lives, instead she paints a portrait of community, faith and an interesting interdependence upon the English world, while still preserving their unique separate ways. Excellent listen!
