When it comes to working on oneself regardless of it being in a 12-step context or just in a general context, the ever-shining light of truth makes itself apparent when we are either introduced to or revising elements of scripture that are pertinent to our tasks at hand. When we look at our lives and issues we are battling through a biblical context, we embody a sense of empowerment that may be lacking should we go at these things alone. A biblical parable that always empowers me is the David and Goliath chapter that shows the inherent abilities we have even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Well, think of this book as your sling. I appreciated J. D. Graham’s ability to intertwine recovery with biblical context effortlessly and pragmatically.

I usually skip faith-based books because I'm not a believer, but I decided to approach this book with an open mind and see if it contained anything I could use. Obviously the spiritual talk didn't connect, but I liked the journaling aspect. It helped me dig deeper and got me thinking about how I can handle tough days. I can see how the spiritual talk could be comforting for someone who is a believer. For me, this simply helped me slow down and reflect.

I’ve been working the steps for a while, but I always felt like my faith was kind of sitting on the sidelines. This helped me bring God into the process in a real, personal way. The questions made me think deeper, and I started journaling more honestly than I ever have. It’s not preachy—it just guides you to connect Scripture with each step. I’ve felt more grounded and hopeful since I started using it. If you’re looking to mix recovery with real faith, this workbook hits the right balance.

I got this workbook to help strengthen my recovery journey through a more spiritual lens. What I appreciated most was how it connected each step with Scripture—it really helped me reflect on things in a deeper way. The layout is simple and encourages honest self-work without feeling overwhelming. Even if you’re already familiar with the 12 steps, this version adds a meaningful perspective that makes you think and grow in your faith as well as your sobriety.
