Publisher's Summary

She’s the woman of his dreams. If only she didn’t despise him...

Everything has always come easily to Caleb James. Everything, that is, but Mary Walker. Her stunning beauty and independent nature enticed him from the start and yet, every romantic overture he made went so horribly awry that she can now barely tolerate him. But that’s all about to change. He has the perfect plan to redeem himself. When she arrives at his family estate, he’ll finally be able to win her heart. Too bad he’s not the only one there with the very same idea...

The last thing Mary wants is time alone with the insufferable Caleb. But since he’s one of her twin’s best friends, declining his invitation is out of the question. She’ll just have to do her best to ignore the charismatic, overly confident rogue. Only, he’s not acting like a rogue this time. Surely the little glimpses she catches of his softer, kinder side are an act...right?

Can Caleb and Mary overcome years’ worth of misunderstandings and missteps - not to mention a persistent rival for Mary’s affections - to find their very own happily ever after? Or, when all is said and done, will the charming rogue be left alone once again?

This regency era romance is a stand-alone novel and the third book in The Pathways to Romance series. It is rated "G" and features an enemies-to-lovers story line.

Unable to finish

I couldn’t finish this book (I made it a little over 1/2 way through the book). I had a strong dislike of both Caleb James and Mary Walker. Mary was extremely judgmental of everything that Caleb did and kept assuming the worst of his motives. Caleb behaved and spoke in ways that I found unbecoming. And while Caleb’s behavior was less than admirable, the women in his life kept singing his praises.

Cute story, struggled with the narration

I liked the story in this book. I found it interesting enough to continue listening, even though I did struggle slightly with the narration. I found the speaking to not be incredibly clear, and the voice was just not as easy for me to listen to. But I'm sure that's more of a personal preference. I do feel, however, that the narrator did pretty well with inflection and character voices.
I also found myself somewhat confused with the thoughts and actions of characters at times. But I would be very interested in reading a hard copy version of this book to see if I could enjoy it better.
Overall, I think it's worth a try! Some of the things I found confusing or disliked might not bother someone else at all.

sweet clean romance

The rogue is quite charming and Mary is very blind due to misunderstandings and flubbed attempts at impressing her. She actually reminded me of my 7th grade self who couldn't stand a particular boy and then ended up going to Junior prom with him. I can't decide if that is an indication of Mary's change of heart being realistic or just Mary being immature in general.

It is a quick read and clean. Nice for an evening's read.

I find it difficult to listen to two regency audio books back to back as I did today because when I get used to the first narrator it is hard to make the switch to the second one. So initially I didn't enjoy this narrator but by the end of the book I was quite used to her and comfortable with her reading. While she isn't my favorite narrator, it didn't detract from the story.

Sweet regency

This was a sweet regency romance. It’s nice to find a clean regency era on Audible. Cute story with plenty of great dialogue. A lot of misunderstandings to be solved.

Good story

This was a good story. I didn’t love the book but it was enjoyable. Both main characters were annoying at times. I did enjoy the narrator as well.

Fun addition to Pathways to Romance series

Fun story. Her misperceptions, his unrequited love... While this book can be read as a standalone, much of the background to the story and depth to secondary characters is found in the other books in the series. This was one of the better stories in the series, in my opinion.

A Sweet Regency Story

I received a free code via StoryOrigin and downloaded the story from Audible.com and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I am always looking for a good Pride and Prejudice variation and this story did not disappoint! It is a clean regency romance and I really enjoyed listening to it. This is a standalone within a series which I like, since I have not yet read the first two books. Through misunderstandings and a good dose of prejudice along the way, Mary and Caleb struggle to find their way to true love. This is a fun regency romp which was a delight to listen to!

Unlikeable heroine in an otherwise cute story

I was glad to hear another book in the series but this one may be my least favorite so far; the cute story would be improved if the heroine had more redeeming characteristics. It was hard for me not to see her as entitled, bossy, and controlling. As such it was hard to connect to the main characters and see why the man would stick like glue to her.

Not a Big Fan

Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this story. I felt that Mary was very whiny and over the top with her complaints. I wasn't a fan of Caleb and the way he tried to win Mary over. I found myself frustrated throughout the book.
