Publisher's Summary

A tragic death.

A grieving brother.

A plot to deceive the entire world.

Ex-SAS major and kidnap recovery specialist Ben Hope is looking for peace in a quiet Spanish town. What he gets instead is the kind of trouble that only a man like him can handle.

Raul Fuentes can’t accept that his sister, Catalina, took her own life. Ben isn’t convinced, but ghosts from his own past compel him to help Raul discover the truth.

What connects Catalina’s apparent suicide to the suspicious fate of three of her fellow scientists? And why do a gang of professional killers follow Ben and Raul wherever they go?

Ben will soon discover the terrible truth: a fraudulent conspiracy to dupe all of humankind. And those responsible will soon find out they’ve met their match.

Cassandra Sanction...

Ben feels pity for someone he helps in a bar, and offers to help the man in his search for his sister. Everything points to her having taken her own life, but as time goes on that looks increasingly unlikely.
This was another good addition to the Ben Hope Series. I didn't think it flowed in the same way as previous books, but nevertheless it was an entertaining read.
We'll narrated by Colin Mace.

Interesting story ...

This was a good book & had plenty of action for our hero to deal with ... however, even though I do enjoy detail, there was way too much detail in long winded passages and it not only frustrated & irritated me, plus our Hero Ben, but even the narrator was struggling and lacked his usual narrative flow.

Not as good

Too much technical detail, scientific overkill. There’s not very much of a storyline, unfortunately it has rather spoilt my praise of this good, prolific writer.

Not the best of Mariani's work

I'm a big fan of his stuff but this is poor, every twist telegraphed ahead, always loved the level of minor detail in his books but this is very slow at times and the main reveal takes so long and is so unbelievable and unrealistic as to undermine the whole book. Mace does his best with the material and his general and "Ben" voice are great but some of the accents get a bit wearing. All of his other books have been very entertaining though so maybe just a rare miss.

Great story

Great story as is expected from this author. Engrossing as usual. Good performance apart from the really poor iraninan accent! Sounds Arab

Fast paced, action packed adventure

Ben Hope is drawn into another fast paced, action packed adventure when he meets Raul Fuentes. Raul expresses his doubts about the apparent suicide of his twin sister, Catalina. Ben own suspicions are raised when he and Raul are followed by professional killers. They later discover that three of Catalina’s fellow scientists have met a suspicious fate. What has happened and why?

The only reason I have awarded this Ben Hope book four stars rather than five was that the ending was not as satisfying as it could have been. The book is still a page turner, offering double crosses, twists and turns at every stage, and a gripping read.
