Unlucky in Love

Years ago Alden Leeds found a rich vein of gold in the Klondike. Now his greedy relatives fear he's planning to throw his fortune away on a gold-digging spouse, Emily Milicant. So to prevent the two from joining in holy matrimony, they commit their affluent kin to a sanitarium on a trumped-up charge.

Then Leeds escapes, only to end up in the company of Emily's blackmailing brother, John, a manufacturer of fixed dice, rolling bones that always come up seven. But when John is murdered - with Leeds's fingerprints found all over the apartment - Perry Mason must crack a baffling case before his client bumps from the nut house to the jail house....

An enjoyable listen

Not sure what year this was written but it's a fun listen having grown up with Raymond Burr's Perry Mason. The narrator was perfect except for the female voices but his rendition wasn't enough to really bother me.

If you loved the old Perry Mason TV show then you'll love this. Earle Stanley Gardner was a good author and his books still hold up.

Good narration except the elderly

I liked the book and I usually like this narrator. But his “old prospector” voice annoys me. That the only reason I gave the performance three stars.

Great moments, overly convoluted plot

Very enjoyable. Entertaining story although it wouldn't have hurt to cut a plot twist or two. Some great characters return, we get two trials for the price of one. A lot (a bit too much) happens.
Great character development for Perry and some ominous foreshadowing. Interesting message about justice.

I took a point off the narration because chewing gum vigorously does not necessarily mean chewing gum audibly and that got annoying real fast.
