He announced himself as Mr. Cash. His calling card was ten crisp hundred-dollar bills!

"My wife has disappeared," he told Perry Mason. "She's in trouble of some sort. I want to find her."

Mr. Cash's wife was indeed in trouble of a most serious sort. First, her jewelry disappeared. Then she disappeared. Perry Mason had to find her before the police could arrest her - for murder.

When I say worth it, I mean that I picked up this audiobook during an Audible sale. With the cost of credits I wouldn’t have used one on a book of this length.

Anyway this is a great little book. The Crying Swallow moves at an incredible pace and kept me along for the ride.

The 2 shorts are very interesting in their own right and are well worth a listen. The first is an interesting character study but you can tell it’s more like an exercise or perhaps an exploration as ESG was honing his skill.

The second story a an absolute gem that left me wanting to read more stories about Mr.Zoom and Rip. While I’m not a super fan of ESG I love nearly all of the Mason books I’ve listened to and wish Audible had even more of them. That said, I’d never heard of Sidney Zoom (I’m probably misspelling the name because I’ve only heard it spoken) and will be looking to see if ESG wrote anything else featuring him.

And Cendese IS Perry Mason and he performs to his usual high standards. Glad the audiobook company didn’t switch narrators. I really get annoyed when they do that.

Worth it despite the length.

A Perry Mason novella and two short stories from the great old days of pulp fiction, showcasing ESG's diverse writing skills. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing narrator!
