Publisher's summary

A New York Times best seller! Brokenness doesn't only find us in the big things - things like illness, hardship, or grief. It can find you in the everyday. Learn to walk in a way that glorifies Jesus and receive freedom, not beyond your fear and pain, but within it.

We are fragile and we know it. Sometimes, living with Christ in a messed-up world feels less like victory and more like walking uphill. Ann Voskamp, the New York Times best-selling author of One Thousand Gifts, sits at the edge of her life and her own unspoken brokenness and asks: What if you really want to live abundantly before it's too late? What do you do if you really want to know abundant wholeness?

This one's for the lovers and the sufferers. This one's for the busted ones who are ready to bust free, the ones ready to break molds, break chains, break measuring sticks, and break all this bad brokenness with an unlikely good brokenness. You could be one of the beloved who is broken - and still lets yourself be loved.

Ann desperately wants you to know:

  • God is attracted to the broken, the sin-sick, and those in need
  • The very things people are most ashamed of are the exact broken things that draw God to his people
  • You can live in the face of your unspoken pain
  • You can discover and trust this broken way - the way to not be afraid of broken things

The Broken Way is simple in presentation, written in Ann’s unique style - a new way for desperate Christians in need of a fresh revelation of the grace of God.

So disappointed

If you've ever heard Ann read her own writings or even speak, you won't be able to listen to this audible version. The narrator rips it to shreds. I couldn't even make it through the first chapter and I cringed the entire way.
Ann writes like liquid, silk poetry.
I'm sure the narrator did her best but Ann's work should only be read by her.

Book is probably excellent but narration is awful

The book is probably amazing, I love Ann Voskamp but the narrator is painful to listen to. She has loud, sharp intakes of breath every 3 words. It is completely louder than her reading & doesn't give any more feeling to the narration but just distracts. I couldn't even get through the first chapter. Get the book on Kindle.

Read the hard copy book only

The content of this book is wonderful so I plan to buy the tangible version. The audiobook suffers. I cannot get past the preachy voice to the content. I have tried to suffer through it because I love listening to books while I work. But the constant preachy tone and lack of sentence cadence is like listening to scratching on a chalkboard. The author is awesome, but please redo the audiobook.

Life Changing

Ann Voskamp took me deep into the beliefs I held about brokenness. She has challenged the very core of the idea that we need to "heal" from our brokenness and instead challenges us to LIVE from our brokenness. In doing so, she also challenges the way we approach the brokenness we encounter in this world and in others. Jamie Paul's narration of this book added even more meaning to the words and the heart of Ann. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to discover more meaning and depth in this life we live.

Over the top dramatically read

It was so over the top dramatically read that I was not able to listen to it. A shame because I suspect the content might have been quite good.

Great content, bad narration

This book was excellent aside from the narration. I thought the author would be narrating when I purchased this title; I should have looked closer. The narrator seemed like she was trying to read this reflective, thoughtful book in a anxious and adventurous tone. It really made it hard for me to relax and soak in the feeling behind these beautiful, meaningful words.

Disliked the narration

Honestly, I couldn’t get through the first chapter of this book because of the narration. The narrator takes deep, dramatic breaths that make it more about her voice than the content in my opinion. That made it hard to focus and ruined it for me. Will try to order the hardback. Disappointed.

Horrible Narration

I just couldn't bear listening. Returned. Sad, because I love Ann's writing and I'm sure it would have been a good book.

Narration

The context of the book is great. The animation in the narrators voice was overwhelming for the first several chapters. I’m not sure if she toned it down a bit or I just got used to it but it seemed more tolerable for the remainder of the book. The content of the book was worth the perseverance to finish the book.

Ann Voskamp did it again

Ann Voskamp brilliantly lays out her heart and guides others who have been or are broken into giving and grace.
