Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny‚ but not important emotions, like love. His family knows better - that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can't turn it down. Seducing Khai, however, doesn't go as planned. She's hopelessly smitten with a man who's convinced he can never return her affection.

That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Excellent narration! I loved the premise, I loved the heroine, I loved the setting. What I didn't love was the crude language referring to the hero's anatomy and the usual way he feels "satisfied." It was crass and vulgar and didn't fit with the rest of the story. Also I thought the hero took too long to come to his senses. I enjoyed so much about this book, but these aspects kept it from being a book I could recommend, and really cheapened the experience overall.

Didn't This Bother Anyone Else?

The Bride Test is the second in The Kiss Quotient series by Helen Hoang. It has very little overlap with the characters from the first book. There are characters who were in The Kiss Quotient as minor characters who are central characters in this one. The main character is Khai, who seen briefly in the first book. The female central character is Esmeralda or Esme, who is brought from Viet Nam as a potential bride for Khai. The cultural differences, even though Khai is of Viet Namese descent, are large and do create some problems. The story is fun at times and also very sad. The Bride Test has a different narrator than The Kiss Quotient and this is where the audiobook loses a star. Emily Woo Zeller speaks softly. But when Quan speaks, the narrator raises her voice. He feels as though he is shouting compared to the rest of the dialogue. I enjoyed The Bride Test, felt the narration could have been better and am looking forward to book 3 in the series.

Volume in narration is the only issue

I have recently discovered this author and fallen in love with her work.

Everything about this story was wonderful, and I especially like the nostalgia I get with the expressions of culture throughout.

I highly recommend this story.

I love this book and series so much!!! The characters and the story are breathtaking.. Esme and Khai story really moved me so much, I love how Helen brings these characters that make you smile but also make you wonder what is going to happen next as they will keep you guessing what is happening in their mind and hearts at all times.. I love Esme how sensible she was, I felt connected to her at times especially when she felt at her lowest points, her internal dialog was very familiar and even made her more lovable and acceptable.. I really like how The Bride Test had a message of superation, that all dreams can come true when you have the faith and the conviction of it.
.
Another great thing about The Bride Test was the relationship between Khai and Esme they both were perfect for each other. Khai was very direct making Esme uncomfortable and even hurt her without even noticed or knowing why. the reader will find gratifying that the author wrote an amazing heroine, Esme shows us how hard she worked for her dreams and made everything possible, she was kind, beautiful, and never gave up on her dreams and opportunity to have a better life for her and her family.

I have a hard time writing a review when I really love a book because I have much to say and not enough words to describe it. The Bride Test was beautiful, I really recommend it, is a story full of love, persistence, and determination.

The Narrations by Emily Woo Zeller were amazing!!! she really gave so much to the characters, she made me fall more for them and I really love how she gave so much depth to each voice and circumstances the main characters were going through I cry, and laugh with her so much... great work!!

Get ready to fall in love with Khai and Esme!!

Helen Hoang wrote in the style of Toni Morrison - vivid, eloquent and breaking the traditions and norms of how one approaches the culture of being different. I loved her lsnguage around love and all the ways its expressed (verbally and through actions) by each character in various ways. Certainly worth the read!

Beautifully complicated.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well written and developed. If you are looking for a story with more than just sex, but an actual story this is for you. The two main characters struggle to know each other and themselves. They end up understanding themselves and each other. I couldn’t stop listening. The narrator had a calm Soothing voice that added to the story’s beauty. It’s a great listen and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Well written story
