Publisher's Summary

The box has been in Panea's family for generations. Like the women before her, she has no idea what's inside, just that she has sworn to protect it. When the box is accidentally destroyed in a fire, Panea learns the truth behind her oath and like the hope from Pandora's box, Panea's box gives her something of its own.

Great self-contained story

Quality short story. Just enough characters to establish believable relationships, not too many to muddle the waters. It also has a clear focused plot which hints at the right amount of history. This could definitely be the origin story to a larger world.

Good short story, but feels like a prologue

The author manages to cram quite a bit of content into this action packed short story. The story was well written and I liked the narration. While some of the conflict does get wrapped up, it very much feel like it's the first chapter to a larger story.

A Terrific Short Story! 4.5 Exciting Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a well written, well told short story that has an original and interesting storyline. Kayla Krantz created a fascinating and imaginative world. The lead character Panea, the protector of the mysterious box that has been passed down for generations. This story may be short but it packs a punch once that box is left unprotected. No spoilers here but some out of this world things start happening, there is a lot of drama, action, twists, mystery and suspense. Kayla Krantz fits a lot of story into 34 minutes, one I hope she builds on it. Thank you for this great story.

I listened to the Audible edition, Kay Mack did a nice job narrating and telling the story.

Fast story needs more

I received this book for free at my request the following review is of my own. This story was definitely too short. Just as things are rolling along and you are hooked it ends. This needs to be longer must know more of what happens to the box and the creatures.

Well told story

Well told short story that has plenty of action and twists and turns. I just wish it was longer so we get to see more about what happens to the box.

Dark YA

As the title states, this is a dark YA story. We are introduced to Pania who must guard a box handed down to her which has been protected by her ancestors for generations. The screams in the middle of the night are a reminder for her to never give in to the ongoing temptation to open it. Then there's Mark, who was introduced in a way that made me smile and feel relief that this tortured girl found someone to distract her from the seriousness of her life. Without any spoilers, things go wrong and there is blood.

This short story is not a cross over adult/YA fantasy, so it was not my style. That being said, as an adult I was surprised that I enjoyed any of it but I did. I believe a much younger adult would enjoy it more.

The Box

A lot of story packed into a short amount of time. Kayla Krantz has set the stage for what could be an incredible series. I really hope there is more to come!

Kay Mack provided the perfect voice for Panea. I would not hesitate to listen to more of her work.

Not my style

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. This is definitely written for a young audience. It is very short and there is very little depth to it.
