A debut novel full of magic, adventure, and romance, The Book of Doors opens up a thrilling world of contemporary fantasy for readers of The Midnight Library, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, The Night Circus, and any modern story that mixes the wonder of the unknown with just a tinge of darkness.

Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading.

But this is no ordinary book…

It is the Book of Doors.

Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Then she’s approached by a gaunt stranger in a rumpled black suit with a Scottish brogue who calls himself Drummond Fox. He’s a librarian who keeps watch over a unique set of rare volumes. The tome now in Cassie’s possession is not the only book with great power, but it is the one most coveted by those who collect them.

Now Cassie is being hunted by those few who know of the Special Books. With only her roommate Izzy to confide in, she has to decide if she will help the mysterious and haunted Drummond protect the Book of Doors—and the other books in his secret library’s care—from those who will do evil. Because only Drummond knows where the unique library is and only Cassie’s book can get them there.

But there are those willing to kill to obtain those secrets. And a dark force—in the form of a shadowy, sadistic woman—is at the very top of that list.

Editorial Review

Equal parts adventure and fantasy
Seeing Miranda Raison (who exceptionally narrated one of my favorites, Lessons in Chemistry) as the performer, plus the stunning cover in The Book of Doors was all the convincing it took for me to download the title. The story is centered on Cassie Andrews, a bookstore employee who inherits a mysterious book with strange inscriptions from an elderly customer who was very dear to her. Shorty after Cassie discovers how to use the book—which can open a door to anyplace she desires—she’s approached by Drummond Fox, a librarian who not only claims that there is danger coming for Cassie, but that he is the only one who can help. The Book of Doors is equal parts adventure and fantasy that, combined with Raison’s stellar performance, has left me wondering if we will hear more about other "books" from debut author Gareth Brown. — Audible Editor, Patty R.

I got this book a few days ago just to have something to listen to on my drive to work and back home. I found myself taking the long way home. Then listening to it more when I got home. It’s a beautiful fantasy story that gives a sense of wonder that I feel most adult fantasy books forget to add. Plus an intelligent reflection on grief with characters I couldn’t help but root for with Izzy being my personal favorite. The narrator was also really impressive. She has one of those voices that you would listen to her reading the phone book, and she brings a unique voice to every character and her performance really elevates the dialogue! Just all around a fantastic audio book!

It is so hard to get a time travel book right and this one succeeds with flying colors! The twists fit together like a pretty puzzle. The characters are endearing if a little to nice for their own good. The whole plot is a ball of fun. The narration is excellent. Such a fun read I’m reddy for the sequel!

Wonderfully Clever!

I was skeptical to start this book because fantasy just isn’t really my cup of tea. I am so glad I read it, anyway. This story is thought provoking and it is mesmerizing. I have laughed and cried and yelled but I never stopped listening to this story. I couldn’t put it down, it was so good! If the blurb entices you in anyway, please give this story a go. It’s wonderful.
