Publisher's Summary

A brand-new unabridged recording of Philippa Gregory’s classic best seller featuring an afterword read by the author!

From “the queen of royal fiction” (USA Today) comes this New York Times best seller featuring three very different women whose fates are each bound by a bloody curse: the legacy of the Boleyn family.

After the death of his third wife, Jane Seymour, King Henry VIII of England decides to take a new wife, but this time, not for love. The Boleyn Inheritance follows three women whose lives are forever changed because of the king’s decision, as they must balance precariously in an already shaky Tudor Court.

Anne of Cleves is to be married to Henry to form a political alliance, though the rocky relationship she has to the king does not bode well for her or for England.

Katherine Howard is the young, beautiful woman who captures Henry’s eye, even though he is set to marry Anne. Her spirit runs free, and her passions run hot - though her affections may not be returned upon the king.

Jane Rochford was married to George Boleyn, and it was her testimony that sent her husband and infamous sister-in-law Anne to their deaths. Throughout the country, her name is known for malice, jealousy, and twisted lust.

The Boleyn Inheritance is a novel drawn tight as a lute string about three women whose positions brought them wealth, admiration, and power, as well as deceit, betrayal, and terror.

Good But With Surprising Historical Inaccuracies

I really enjoyed this book and its first person perspective of three infamous women during the later part of Henry VIII's life. I especially liked the author's take on Lady Rochford and her possible motives for throwing two Queens under a bus. What surprised me, however, is that the author states three times that Anne Boleyn was executed with an ax as her head lay on a block. It's common knowledge she was famously executed by a sword in the French style of kneeling upright. There were a few other glaring inaccuracies that I found distracting from the otherwise well written book.

Not what I expected.

As always, the author does a fantastic job with her research and writing to blend the characters together. I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t get into these characters as much as I wanted. It took a good portion of the book for me to be invested. However, the 3 narrators did a great job.

Ghastly new version...1 star means zero

Horrible narration. Teenage Katharine sounds way over 30 and Anne sounds like a 50 year old with a clothes peg in her nose plus a bizarre accent that certainly does not seem German. Jane talks so fast I had to slow her down and when any of them are talking to any one else especially a man it was impossible to understand who was who. I loved the original recording. Why on earth did they change it to this confusing dreck.

Different but good.

I’m used to the Recorded Books. Version but I was pleasantly surprised. Good rendition:) I really liked the narration and the overall story is one of Philippa Gregory’s best works.
