Story
Faith Fairchild and her husband Tom, the handsome young minister, have left the little village of Aleford, Massachusetts, for a summer on Sanpere Island, off the coast of Maine. But Tom is called away to a three-week religious retreat in New Hampshire, leaving Faith to amuse herself and care for baby Benjamin, now safely into his terrible twos. The summer begins innocently enough, with Faith involved in a seemingly harmless mystery, a hunt for treasure, the clues to which are cryptically embedded in a patchwork quilt.

While discussing the lavish party he's planning for his 70th birthday, Max Dane - the legendary Broadway musical producer/director - makes a startling confession: "I didn't hire you for your cooking skills, fine as they may be, but for your sleuthing ability. After 15 years away, Kate Hamilton never expected to end up back in her hometown of Asheboro, Maryland, full time. And she definitely didn't expect to be leading the charge of recreating the town as a Victorian village and tourist attraction. The Barton mansion, meant to be the centerpiece of the Victorian village, has proven to be a veritable goldmine of documents about the town's 19th-century history, and Kate is convinced the papers hide something of value. Then a dead body turns up in the town library - mere hours before the documents were meant to arrive there themselves.

Publisher's Summary
To celebrate their wedding anniversary, intrepid caterer and sometime sleuth Faith Fairchild and her husband, the Reverend Tom Fairchild, are off to Italy for a vacation filled with exquisite indulgences-the art, the Chianti, the food, the Ferragamos! The plan is to spend a romantic weekend in Rome before heading to Tuscany for a stay at Cucina della Rossi, a cooking school founded by Faith's back-in-the-day assistant Francesca Rossi.
Faith is certain that the only intrigue in store for her will be learning the secret recipe for Nona Rossi's ragu. But a thicker plot begins to simmer when the Fairchilds accidentally stumble upon a dying man in the Piazza Farnese. It's clear from the knife in the victim's chest that murder is on the menu.
Mysterious faces from Rome reappear in Tuscany. To Faith, this is no coincidence. And somebody is intent on sabotaging Francesca's new business by spoiling the cream and salting the flour. As Faith struggles to follow a trail more twisting than fusilli, she may be putting both herself and her husband in hot water.

Don't waste your time or money!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different narrator - her attempts at different accents were painful to listen to.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something from a better narrator like Davina Porter.
How could the performance have been better?
She kept trying to do things like a British accent or an Australian accent - all attempts were laughably bad.
Any additional comments?
The whole time I was listening I thought it sounded suspiciously like "North by Northwest". Then the author admitted to stealing the plot from that classic movie. Most of the book was about shopping for groceries or cooking. I usually like Katherine Hall Page, but this was a real stinker.

Much ado about nothing
I'm disappointed. The description sounded fun - I mean - a mystery in Italy? Great. And from reviews I expected rich descriptions of Italy and food but really it just listed the names of sites . The tone of the writing and exaggeratedly so of the narrator was was empty pseudo high-class posturing. All very dry. I didn't finish it.
