Between the writing and the narration, I’m not sure which I loved more! Such a pleasure to read.

I would have enjoyed this book more if Valancy had been characterized with deeper virtue. The way she thought about value and beauty remained just as shallow as her family’s view. And her immature spiteful behavior toward them kept me from feeling like her character had really evolved with her external appearance. Of course she had some very redeemable character traits, but Montgomery kept it all pretty surface level in my opinion.
