Publisher's summary

In this stunning conclusion to N. E. Davenport’s fast-paced, action-packed sci-fantasy duology, elite warrior Ikenna and her rogue cohort must outrun bounty hunters, their former comrades, and a megalomaniacal demi-god, all in the hopes of saving their friends and enemies from the racist and misogynistic oppression that threatens the continents from all sides.

After discovering the depth of betrayal, treachery, and violence perpetrated against her by Mareen’s Tribunal Council and exposing her illegal blood-gift to save her Praetorian squad, Ikenna becomes a fugitive with a colossal bounty on her head.

Yet, somehow, that’s the least of her worries.

Her grandfather’s longtime allies refuse to offer help, and the Blood Emperor’s Warlord is tracking her. She’s also struggling to control the enormous power she was granted by the Goddess of Blood Rites…and come to terms with the promises she made to get such power.

Amidst all of this, the Blood Emperor wages a full-scale invasion against Mareen and leaves a trail of decimated cities, war crimes, and untold death in his wake. As the horrors increase, Ikenna and her team realize they must assassinate the Blood Emperor and quickly end the war. But the price to do so is steep and has planet-shattering consequences.

The price to do nothing, though, is annihilation.

War has erupted. Alliances are fracturing. And Ikenna is torn between her loyalties, her desires for revenge, and the power threatening to consume her. With the world aflame, only one thing is certain: blood will be spilled.

Enjoyed the 1st book; 2nd overstayed its welcome.

Well I finished. And like another reviewer was not sure that would happen. The writing style kept me in it, but at some point I just became bored with the endless cycle of battles at the novels end. That said, most of them advanced the plot the author was going for, but I'm not sure if setting up another story in the same universe was a good thing to do.

I think the time could have been spent more on developing the stories of the other squad members, delving into why they become so attached and devoted to Ikenna aside from her battle prowess. As another reviewer stated, more focus on both the magic systems and the science to counter them.

I still enjoyed the series and will recommend the 1st book. The last 6 hours was too repitive though, so have to deduct some stars.

SPOILER Alert:

I just felt the entire God of War storyine was not needed and was there only to set up the next series. The conflict with Selene was well set up and executed and they could have gone straight to the epilogue.

Better than the first!!!!

I’m about two chapters away from finishing and it’s so much better than the first. Less graphic sex scenes, more characters growth and development. I lovvvvve this series.

Amazing I loved it

I’m so happy Ikenna and Darius finally became a legit couple. I am also glad the Graysen and Caiman finally came out. Hayes broke my heart I was hoping for him and Dannica but maybe she’ll get her own spin off. I actually deep down am in love with Ajani!! That’s my boo

it is very rare i don't like a heroine

i enjoy this story, i really don't like this heroine. i love the story, i hate the lead female i understand a character has to have flaws, but likeability helps alot. I like a Johnny much more than our protagonists.....

I look forward to the upcoming battles...

I have truly enjoyed this series. I've enjoyed the character development and the action scenes. I believe these books would make a great limited run series. I look forward to hearing what Invictus faces next.
