From the author of the best-selling study of the 1948 War of Independence comes an incisive look at the Occupied Territories, picking up the story where The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine left off.

Published on the 15th anniversary of the Six-Day War that culminated in the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Pappe offers a comprehensive exploration of one of the world's most prolonged and tragic conflicts. Using recently declassified archival material, Pappe analyses the motivations and strategies of the generals and politicians-and the decision-making process itself - that laid the foundation of the occupation. From a survey of the legal and bureaucratic infrastructures that were put in place to control the population of over one million Palestinians, to the security mechanisms that vigorously enforced that control, Pappe paints a picture of what is to all intents and purposes the world's largest "open prison".

Well... the author certainly knew that it was a matter of time. And... I don't know what to say. This book was just devastating for me, I was aware of the issues before this book, but the precise facts and the mechanization of the time line are all here of which I wasn't aware of. It only took a genocide to decide to read this. If you want to know exactly how it came to this, please read. 🇵🇸 🕊🇵🇸

This book broke my heart. To learn more of what the Palestinian people have endured is just heartbreaking. I thought I knew most of the history, and I thought I knew all that they've endured in the West Bank in particular but it's worse that I thought, and how complicit the rest of the world has been to this decades long genocide is horrific as well.

Incremental genocide is something that indigenous and Black people in the US have endured for centuries. To learn this word and see it applied correctly to another genocide has made everything click for me in a way that it wasn't before. Israel is evil and must be dissolved. There is no two state solution when one is an illegal settler state and the other is just people who are trying to survive.
