Acerca de esta escucha
What is truth in the eyes of Native Americans? What does it mean to be Indian? Do American Indians have a sense of humor? How does their religion differ from other spiritualities? Listen to what Tecumseh, Red Jacket and other chiefs have to say, as well as contemporary elders like Two White Feathers and Donald Panther-Yates. Enjoy the humor of American Indian Movement leaders like Russell Means and Dennis Banks in this miscellany published on the anniversary of a groundbreaking website from the 90s. You will never think of American Indian writers and activists the same way.

Taken from writings, orations, and recorded observations of life, this audiobook selects the best of Native American wisdom and distills it to its essence in short, digestible quotes - perhaps even more timely now than when they were first written. In addition to the short passages, this edition includes the complete "Soul of an Indian", as well as other writings by Ohiyesa (Charles Alexander Eastman), one of the great interpreters of American Indian thought, and three great speeches by Chiefs Joseph, Seattle, and Red Jacket.

Historia
In Unfamiliar Fishes, Sarah Vowell argues that 1898 might be a year just as crucial to our nation's identity, a year when, in an orgy of imperialism, the United States annexed Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam, and invaded Cuba and then the Philippines, becoming a meddling, self-serving, militaristic international superpower practically overnight. Of all the countries the United States invaded or colonized in 1898, Vowell considers the story of the Americanization of Hawaii to be the most intriguing.

Historia
Abraham Lincoln is the most beloved of all US presidents. He freed the slaves, gave the world some of its most beautiful phrases, and redefined the meaning of America. He did all of this with wisdom, compassion, and wit. Yet, throughout his life, Lincoln fought with God. In his early years in Illinois, he rejected even the existence of God and became the village atheist. In time, this changed but still he wrestled with the truth of the Bible, preachers, doctrines, the will of God, the providence of God, and then, finally, God’s purposes in the Civil War.

Sarah Vowell's special brand of armchair history makes the bizarre and esoteric fascinatingly relevant and fun. She takes us from the modern-day reenactment of an Indian massacre to the Mohegan Sun casino, from old-timey Puritan poetry, where "righteousness" is rhymed with "wilderness," to a Mayflower-themed waterslide. Throughout, The Wordy Shipmates is rich in historical fact, humorous insight, and social commentary by one of America's most celebrated voices.

New Orleans is acclaimed for its witches, ghosts, and vampires. Because of its unique history, New Orleans is the historical stronghold of traditional African religions and spirituality in the US.

Historia
If You Can Keep It is at once a thrilling review of America's uniqueness, and a sobering reminder that America's greatness cannot continue unless we truly understand what our founding fathers meant for us to be. The book includes a stirring call-to-action for every American to understand the ideals behind the "noble experiment in ordered liberty" that is America. It also paints a vivid picture of the tremendous fragility of that experiment and explains why that fragility has been dangerously forgotten.

Historia
Best-selling author John Ortberg shares how Jesus' influence has swept over history and how his vision of life continues to impact humanity today. Jesus' impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history doesn't connect dots; and it is doubled-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name.

The Truth of Being Indian
With wry humor, irony, wit and wisdom, the authors bring you 15 years of Panthers Lodge. You are introduced t0 the truth of being a 21st century Indian, along with historical Indian perspective. Some of the contributors are J. C. High Eagle, Russell Means, George Starr-Bresette, Brian Wilkes and the authors Anna Kolouthon, Donald and Teresa Yates.
Some interesting post from Panthers Lodge guest book is included.
You are introduced to the top ten reasons to be Indian. The Number one reason on Being Indian, YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY AT LEAST ONCE A DAY THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE TO EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE WHAT KIND OF INDIAN YOU ARE, HOW MUCH, AND WHICH PART.
Are you all or part and which part?
So You Want to be an Indian ask you to reflect on reasons such as
Will you take the hatred and misunderstanding along with the mystique?
J. C. High Eagle gives you many examples of Being Indian. Many Funny and profound.
Donald N Panther Yates offers What is Truth in Chapter Two.
Chief Two White Feathers says: “People ask me what they can do about the world. I tell them to stop lying. Tell the truth, to yourself and others.” Donald Panther Yates interviews Chief Two White Feathers and wrote A Memoir of Chief Two White Feathers also found on Audible.
Many other wisdoms are to be found from Chiefs past and present including Tecumseh
Speech to General W. H. Harrison and The REAL Story of Thanksgiving.
Other questions are answered such as why the Clan system was suppressed and musings of William Bartram.
The subject matter is broad and will tweak your interest and desire to read more. Donald Yates is a descendant of Cherokee Chief Black Fox and a tribal Elder. His writings have much to share. I like reflecting on my unknown Cherokee Heritage and the lessons he teaches.
Richard B Rees narrated the book, delivering a pleasant listening experience.
Listening and reflecting on Native Wisdom is very insightful and is best received in a meditative state of mind.
