Publisher's summary

In The Bible Is a Catholic Book, Jimmy Akin shows how the Bible cannot exist apart from the church. In its origins and its formulation, in the truths it contains, in its careful preservation over the centuries, and in the prayerful study and elucidation of its mysteries, Scripture is inseparable from Catholicism. This is fitting, since both come from God for our salvation.

If you're a Catholic who sometimes gets intimidated by the Bible, The Bible Is a Catholic Book will help you better understand and take pride in this gift that God gave the world through the church. We are the original Bible Christians!

And even non-Catholics will appreciate the clear and charitable way that Jimmy explains how the early church gave us the Bible and how the church to this day reveres and obeys it.

Isn't just for Catholics who want to know more.

This book is a great read for any Catholic who wants to understand more about his or her faith and where the Bible fits in. Protestants and non-believers owe it to themselves to get an accurate history of how the Bible was established, particularly the New Testament and the Gospels, and how Sacred Tradition fits in.

Terrific explanation for the History of the Bible

Jimmy does a splendid job explaining the origins of the Bible. From how the old testament came about to how the New Testament was built. Even Protestant Christians could learn much from this book, since it is a matter of massive importance understanding the Word of God and where it came from. It is certainly a must-listen for any Catholic as well, as Jimmy Akin does a splendid job of laying out everything clearly and precisely.

Very thorough review.

As a lifelong Protestant studying Catholicism seriously for the first time, I’ve grown to appreciate Jimmy Akins’ work. As never having had a positive experience with catholic peers (none understood the rich history), except my now wife of 41 years, I never felt good reason to study carefully. I had persuaded her away to interdenominational and Lutheran church families, Now, she has returned home to the Catholic Church and I have determined to give Catholicism very serious research. Scott Hahn, Trent Horn, Fr, Robert Barron, Ralph Martin, Peter Madrid, Jimmy Akin, and even men like Matt Frad all are contributing to my deep journey. As a life long study of church history from the Protestant perspective, I realize how much history I’ve missed. Thanks to this book and many others like it I’m growing. I love Jesus with all my heart and want to be found faithful in Him.

I do feel some parts of this book and some other Catholic authors go a little too hard or dismissively on some of the Protestant criticisms, but overall this book is fair and a balanced. I highly recommend it.

Must Read

An excellent book for anyone interested in learning about the history of Biblical development. Mr Akin narrates the book himself making it that much more enjoyable to listen to. This is definitely a resource I will frequently be handing out to others.

Deep Defense

I greatly enjoyed Mr Akin reading his own work. This allows him to place emphasis on keywords and points. The work is an easy to understand defense of something most Catholics do not understand or appreciate. I will refer and gladly listen to it again and again.

Great short study

This book was straight to the truth, cut through what wasn't, and gave in depth reasoning behind each point. it's hard to dispute anything in this book after such an exhaustive, yet engaging tome.

A Helpful Book by a “Down to Earth” Apologist

Readers that have ever listened to the popular broadcast “Catholic Answers” will recognize JimmyAkin’s name (or at least his voice) pretty quickly. Jimmy Aiken understands the priorities of “biblically minded” Christians and has a great tool here to get “up to speed” on innumerable aspects of where it came from, where we are now and so much of the story of how it got from thereto here. For Catholics who appreciate scripture but Wish they knew more about it this is a really great book for you.

As a protestant who may be interested in learning about the history of the Bible, but hesitates to think that a Catholic source is likely to be accurate in its presentation,I would invite you go ahead & listen to this handy overview.

Listening to this book is pretty easy, and the author would want you to bring any skepticism, or doubts with you. So few believers of any denomination really invest time to know the historic development of our canon of written Scripture. They have a Bible but may not have much experience using it.

There is an old quote that, “To be ignorant of scripture is to be ignorant of Christ” we all need to know Christ better, scripture is and has always been the primary source for all who claim to him. This book can point out why we believe this isn’t just some ancient book. The more confident we are that the Bible is true, relevant and trustworthy the easier it is to use it as a daily guide for faith and life.
