Resumen del Editor

Karl Keating defends Catholicism from fundamentalist attacks and explains why fundamentalism has been so successful in converting "Romanists". After showing the origins of fundamentalism, he examines representative anti-Catholic groups and presents their arguments in their own words. His rebuttals are clear, detailed, and charitable. Special emphasis is given to the scriptural basis for Catholic doctrines and beliefs.

Excellent Content, Sub-par Performance

This is a book that you might want to buy in print also. The subject matter is deep and robust.

The narration is sub-par. It sounds like it was recorded with a cell phone and was never listened through before sending it off to Audible. It’s manageable, if you can get used to listening for content and not entertainment.

Learned so much

This was such an excellent explanation of the truth of Catholicism without being overwhelming. I learned so much about what I already believe

Very informative

I liked how easy this book is to read. It’s written in laymans terms.
It gives us tools, not only to learn our faith more deeply, but to share our faith, and be able to explain it to others in a way that they can understand. I highly recommend this book.

Good Information

A lot of good information but the narration was wooden. Good for those who want to know more about why Catholics believe as we do and how to defend our beliefs from fundamentalism.

The BEST Book EVER

As a PhD scholar and educator, I can say this is the BEST book that describes ALL the anti-Catholic fallacies we hear in the Protest-ant public for generations. It's EXCELLENT!!! A must must must hear!

Great!

I would have enjoyed 6 more hours. A polite respectful smack down of the 16th century man-made doctrines and errors.

Outdated Context but Helpful Insights

Content Pros: 2/3 of the book covers key fundamentalist objections to Catholicism and Catholic responses. For this alone, it is worth reading/listening to the book. Many evangelicals inherited their assumptions about and prejudices against Catholicism from their fundamentalism roots, so it applies more widely than just to the fundamentalist world.

Content Cons: The first 1/3 of the book covers the mid-20th c history of anti-Catholic propaganda and proselytism. This is interesting from an historical perspective, but figures such as Jimmy Swaggart and Keith Green have little if any ongoing relevance in current fundamentalist circles. The book was published in the same year (1988) that Swaggart's sex scandals came to light and has not been updated to reflect the precipitous decline in influence he experienced after that debacle.

Even so, the majority of the book is a helpful reference for anticipating and answering common fundamentalist/evangelical challenges to Catholicism.

Audiobook: Daniel Bielinski is a good narrator except for annoying mispronunciations. The work of Loraine Boettner is referenced dozens of times throughout the book, and Bielinski consistently mispronounces Boettner's name. He also mispronounces the last name "Moffat" as "mō-fat," He also, strangely, mispronounces the words "vague" and "plague." For some reason he pronounces both to rhyme with "bag, " as in "vag" and "plag" instead of with a long "a." It is somewhat baffling that a professional narrator would mispronounce such common words and not do a little research to correctly pronounce names he does not recognize. I don't know how these sorts of errors get past the editors.

Amazing overview of Catholics and fundamentalism

Covered several different areas of inquiry and explains them with reason and thoroughness. This is highly recommended for those who wish to approach the question of why the Catholic Church is not unbiblical.
