Publisher's Summary

Lord Victor Mayhew, Viscount Norcross, lives in the shadows, hiding his scarred face from those who would fear him...or worse, pity him. He's become accustomed to the dark, and to the aching loneliness that is his only and constant companion. But while traversing the city in the dark of night, he encounters a beautiful woman who is running for her life.

Lady Thessaly Shade has discovered that the prettiest of faces can hide the ugliest of hearts. While Lord Norcross keeps his face carefully concealed from her, he cannot hide the fact that he is a man of honor, a man for whom the word gentleman is a way of life and not merely an honorary title.

With no way to repay him for his kindness, for his courage in aiding her at great risk to himself, Thessaly bargains with the only thing she possesses of value...herself. Can she convince him to trust her, to believe that she can see beyond the scars he bears to the man he is? Or will he push her away out of fear and retreat into the loneliness that he knows so well?

A beast worth meeting

Based on Beauty and the Beast this story is similar enough to be recognizable and different enough to show creativity. I liked the characters, they're more complex than they seemed in the first chapters and their emotional range is very good.

The narration is well done, I liked the character voices and the delivery conveyed the emotion of the story nicely.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Enjoyable Regency Story

I really enjoyed this book, the story is about a brave strong willed woman, Lady Thessaly, who runs away from her, wastrel of a stepfather who intends to sell her to a brothel having already sold everything else. She is rescued by Victor an honourable tortured soul who lives life in the shadows because he is very badly scarred.

Victor has an enemy, the man who caused his scars, and this enemy is out to hurt him in any way he can.

Thessaly and Victor strike a bargain, they will marry and produce an heir for Victor's line, what isn't part of the bargain is that they will fall in love.

I really enjoyed this story, I liked the way their relationship developed and I loved that love won in the end.

The story was just the right length with just the right amount of action and was beautifully performed.

Fun little book

Fun retelling of beauty in the beast. Sound quality was excellent, accents were well done, enjoyable little spin to an already familiar tale. A little short, but definitely worthwhile.

Nice spin on a classic

This story was very fast paced and intriguing my only complaint is that is was not long enough. 😋 I really like Chasity Bowlin’s writing style and the twists and turns she takes

Lillian Yves does get another great job at narration and navigating between different voices and dialects. She’s easy to listen to and brings the story to life.

Beauty & the Beast..: beautifully done

Not too long, and not rushed. A Regency B&B that was well written and narrated. Highly recommend.

Narrator was Distracting

The plot did not have any unique or creative twists the way that some of the better fairytale reimaginings do. And the narrator had such a choppy delivery (stressing words or phrases at odd intervals in each sentence) that I found myself grinding my teeth and hoping for the end.

Adult Fairytale - short, sexy and sweet!

If you like fairytales and are looking for something compact, fast-moving and easy to listen to, this could be your book. It is a sexy version of Beauty and the Beast, complete with intrigue, murder and some risque Regency fashion. The result is fun and fast-paced Regency escapism.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
