All's fair in love and war...until your brother brings his bad boy, ice hockey playing best friend into your life.

Riley: I'm pouring all my savings into launching my own catering business, so the last thing I need is distraction. Even if he is six feet five inches tall, plays ice hockey, and is probably one of the most intriguing, and also maddening, people I've met. Ever.

People say he's grumpy, but to me, he's funny and kind, too. He's misunderstood and even though he's one of the most famous players coming up in the ranks right now, he doesn't feel seen by those he loves...and I get that. But I've got my own fears: that my dreams fail, my mother keeps rejecting me, and the big one—my fear of commitment.

Jake: Getting suspended for 'anger issues' lands me in Sweetkiss Creek at my agent's request. Licking my wounds and taking a time out sounds ridiculous...until I meet her. She's feisty, sassy, and fiery enough that I swear she could melt the ice I skate on.

I never would have thought I'd find solace and an unexpected ally in the person who's old bedroom I'm staying in. The last thing I want or need is to fall in love—but for some reason my heart isn't getting the memo.

*Narrator:* Jess Moran & Sean Hardisty

*Type of Narration (Single, Dual, Duet) :* Dual

-each narrator does their character’s chapters and nothing else-

*My Reading Speed:* 1.75x

*Have I Read The Book Before Listening to the Audio?* Yes

*Overall Audio Impression:*

Such a wonderful reread! I love Riley & Jake’s story so much! I had actually forgotten quite a bit of the funny aspects of their story so it was almost like reading it for the first time! And I loved how Riley’s brother meddled a little bit after figuring out the two of them liked each other!

I enjoyed both the narrators, even at the increased speed from how they actually recorded it. I thought they both fit their characters very well. I also especially liked when Sean Hardisty had to do voices for the Renegades crew! He made them so much fun!

I have the rest of the audiobooks for this series, but I also have the Renegades series – Jake’s team. So I’m going to have to make a decision to either continue this one or jump over to them! XD

*Favorite Scenes:*

Unexpected driver

Truffle farm

Book Review:

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Riley & Jake’s points of view

– it is mentioned that a character’s parent died when they were young & that the other parent dealt with the passing by hoarding (they are now working on the issue)

Review:

What is it with brother’s best friend romances lately that just capture my heart? I had recently finished Matched With Her Brother’s Best Friend by Britney M. Mills which was an amazing emotional roller coaster and wasn’t expecting to get the same experience with this book (the emotional roller coaster experience I mean) but I did! I loved Riley & Jake’s romance so much! From their meet cute to their time apart (physically) I had so much fun getting to know the two of them and what made them tick. I loved how their romance developed and that they were connected through Riley’s brother. They were so funny and sweet. I loved that Jake enjoyed pushing Riley’s buttons. It led to many funny moments and I loved his dog’s personality. She was both adorable and a bit of a menace when it came to sharing Jake’s attention with Riley. I loved Riley’s friendships in town and her relationship with her brother & father. They were both so supportive of her endeavors. And while it really didn’t seem like her mother was interested/supportive, I’m glad we got an explanation/better idea of what her mother had been trying to do by the end of the story (positive things). I am so excited for the next story after how it was set up in this one!

Summary:

Riley wants to focus on getting her catering business up and running, not on the new hockey player that entered town by way of her brother. Jake is the pinnacle of everything Riley doesn’t want in a potential relationship, or at least that’s what she thinks. But with each passing encounter with Jake, Riley finds herself being distracted by him in a way that could only end in heartbreak. There are so many reasons she should push him away, but Riley can’t seem to let him go…

Jake needed to get out of the limelight after a particularly bad fight landed him in the hotseat with the team he was on. At the urging of his agent and best friend, Jake ventures to the small town of Sweetkiss Creek until the heat dies down. In the meantime, he’ll keep up his training so he’s ready hop right back in. But Jake never expected to be entranced by his best friend’s younger sister, Riley. Her reactions to his pokes and prods enthuse him to no end and she proves to be a great distraction to the various hits made to his career. But as they spend more and more time together, Jake is finding it difficult to think of a time after Sweetkiss Creek without Riley in it…
