"Outside the sun shines. Buses rumble towards Ealing Broadway and I'm expected to do battle with the powers of darkness. It all seems a little unfair..."

You could say it all started with the red-eyed tramp with the slimy fingers who put the wind up Neville, the part-time barman, something rotten. Or when Archroy's wife swapped his trusty Morris Minor for five magic beans while he was out at the rubber factory.

On the other hand, you could say it all started a lot earlier. Like 450 years ago, when Borgias walked the earth.

Pooley and Ornally, stars of the Brentford Labour Exchange and the Flying Swan, want nothing to do with it, especially if there's a Yankee and a pint of Large in the offing. Pope Alexander VI, last of the Borgias, has other ideas.

Brilliant writing and reading! I genuinely enjoyed this work. For me, this author's work is right up there with Douglas Adams.

Brilliant!

Overall liked it except that some of the sound effects were literally painful to me, and overall I felt the sound effects were more of a distraction than an enhancement in many places.

The Exorcist meets Father Ted and Cheers.

Practically every line made me laugh. I really hope that the author meant to be funny…but maybe Brentford just is as described. Having spent some ill-advised hours in small town pubs in Britain, I felt a certain sense of deja-vu. But don’t trust my misspent youth as a guide—read (listen) for yourself and Mr. Rankin will not disappoint. Teetotalers of all stripes, especially the intolerant religious sorts, will bask in a bottomless bog of justification for their abstinence. Everyone else will have a blast. Props for the author and the whole cast!

Hilarious. Thank god for Englishmen and spuds!

This was a really good listen. Strange and quite silly in parts. Particularly like the cowboy theme night.

Clearly read, acted and so on. Very good and very funny.

Another good Rankin.

I wasn't sure I would like others reading with Rankin but this is top notch. The music and sound effects were perfect. I'm almost sorry that Rankin didn't continue this way.

Terrific Stuff
