Publisher's Summary

Evan

Eight years ago, I was cast out of my family, out of my pack, out of the very land that had nurtured me since I was born. The charge? Shifting in front of a human.

It might have been worth the banishment...if I’d actually done the crime.

Now that my alpha is dead, I’m coming back home. I’m determined to return triumphant, to prove myself as the next bloodline alpha.

Pack politics are complicated. But meeting Mike, my own sweet, eager omega? Loving him is the simplest thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Too bad I can’t keep him.

Mike

Gypsum is a small town. Crowded with tourists in the winter, dead economy in the summer. I’ve always dreamed of roaming beyond its borders, seeing the world through the lens of my camera.

When he comes to town, it’s like a little slice of that forbidden, exotic world comes with him.

I know that getting involved with Evan is a bad idea...but I don’t know how to stay away.

And finding out he’s my fated mate? Well, that changes everything.

The Alpha Comes Back is a mpreg shifter audio book featuring a brooding alpha, a small town omega, and one guaranteed happy ending. Each audio book in the Gypsum series can be listened to in any order.

😣 Story. With Disappointing Narration.

I'm a fan of Preston Walker and have listened to many of his books with great enjoyment. This one in my opinion is not one of his best. I didnt care for it. The storyline was weak, the characters vapid, especially Evan. I dont know how he thought he was qualified, strong, or had the leadership to become Alpha. He definitely wasn't strong enough. Heck, he wasn't as strong as a beta. Josh Cates narration and voice acting was a disappointment. Evan sounded wimpy, other characters sounded to much alike. Evan though I dislike this book, it will not deter me from listening to other books by PW. But with this series, and narrator, I'm not sure I'm going to buy or listen to book2.🤔

Ok story

Evan Cook is kicked out of his pack at 18, by his father, over accusations that he let humans know about shifters. Years later, he returns to his pack, after his father's death, with plans to take over as alpha even though his older brother has already taken over that position. No one in his pack is happy to see him back, except his mother and brother, so he decides to show the people in their town that he is not what his reputation makes him to be. His plans are derailed when, in the mood to hook up, he meets sweet omega Mike Adams, from another pack, whose brother actually testified against Evan and contributed to his exile. Even so, they hook up and things change for both of them. This is a fated mates trope, Evan and Mike realize that they are mates pretty quickly, and they fall in love practically instantly. The narrator does a great job, he has a pleasant voice, read the story in a natural tone of voice, hit the right emotional notes, and each character was distinctive and was able to express the story as written. The story was not my favorite, honestly. I didn't connect with Evan, I thought he was bratty, he came home to his pack to take over, but he never had any concrete plans to make any improvements for his pack, and other than his righteous anger at his exile, there really wasn't any good reason for wanting to be alpha. He also treated Mike dishonestly, not wanting to let Mike and his needs get in the way of his plans, even though they are fated mates. I also found Mike a little too desperate for Evan from the very beginning of their relationship, even when Evan is acting distant and casually dismissive. I thought that most of the conflict that drove the plot was flimsy, Evan and Mike could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by speaking and being honest with everyone, and the antagonist of the last scene seemed thrown in for no other reason than to try to make it exciting, after all thinking and talking and sneaking around. I kept asking myself "why don't they just talk to people?" which made me feel annoyed at both MCs and bored with the slow pace and lack of development of the story.

Winner!!!

I really enjoyed this story. I haven't really been a fan of Preston Walker before this, but I found myself entranced both by the story and by the narrator. There is a very good chance that I'll be buying the next book in this series soon.

Good storyline

This is a good story with a solid storyline. The narrator took some getting used to didn’t feel it matched the alpha character in the beginning but he is very good and so it didn’t matter by a few chapters in

Disappointed in the packs perpetuated lie

I had such empathy for Evan and the wrongs done to him by everyone . I liked the strength he had to come back and confront the pack and fight for his fated mate! I was so frustrated that no one would publicly admit their wrongs done to Evan. They just wanted to pretend he did it and move on!! WTH! Glad how things eventually worked out for the couple. The narrator's voice and expressions were great.

Fated mates

I really loved this book. It was very well written. I was engaged through the entire story. When Evan came back to his home, after his father passed away, from being banished for something he didn't do Evan finds himself in need of a Pack. While waiting for his Pack to welcome him back in Evan finds his fated mate and gets him pregnant. Somehow they find a way to be together and have their family and their HEA.
I loved Josh Cates narrating. There's just something about his voice. I looking to hearing him again.

Evan & Mike

Evan is finally able to return home after being banished. He is still the spoiled Alpha he wad when he left even if he has more life experience. Mike is super sweet, and the secrecy is hurting him. I wanted more to happen after the confession at the end.

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

Great comeback for Evan...

Evan was banned from his pack and he had to live on his own without his family. When his father dies, he goes back to his hometown, to his mother and brother. Still resentful and plotting his revenge and instead he found his one, he found love. But their relationship won’t come easy, they have to risk so much to be together. Mike is the sweetest omega. They are great characters and I’d like to read Lance’s story.
